Job Summary

The Department of History is accepting applications for a full-time non-tenure track position at the rank of Senior Lecturer II. This is a fully benefited position with an initial appointment for two years and eligibility for reappointment. The position will have a 3-3 teaching load and various service obligations to the Department as detailed below.

Essential Functions

The successful candidate will support the Department of History's undergraduate teaching mission, which may include any or all of the following activities as determined by departmental need: teaching required methods courses (Hist 275, IEs, Junior Year Writing (JYW); leading curriculum review; consistently offering History 264 (History of Health Care and Medicine); serving as the Undergraduate Program Director (UPD) in rotation with other faculty; providing other assigned service in support of the undergraduate teaching mission.

The successful candidate will be willing to teach some courses online but in-load for purposes of flexibility, especially such required departmental courses as Hist 275, the Interdisciplinary Exploratory (IE) classes, or the JYWs.

They will also provide college level academic support, which may include any or all of the following: convening intercollegiate health humanities events and activities and directing the Health Humanities Certificate; supporting the maintenance and growth of the history of math, science, and technology, forming cross-college collaborations focused on the humanities and STEM; supporting Department and College recruitment and retention efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in hand at time of application.
Minimum 10 year experience in an academic department including teaching, advising, and program administration.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in history of sciences, mathematics and medicine highly desired.

Additional Details

This is a 100%FTE benefited position with an initial appointment of two years which may be renewed.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a standard office or indoor university environment and involves minimal physical exertion.

Salary Information

The University of Massachusetts Amherst expects to pay within an approximate range between $79,350 and $97,216 for this position. Please note:

The low-end of the pay range in all faculty searches at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the minimum salary for the rank included in the collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Massachusetts Society of Professors, UMass Amherst/MTA/NEA.

The high-end of the pay range reflects an increase above the median of salaries at this rank within the department for faculty who may have multiple years of faculty experience.
The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on consideration of all relevant factors, including faculty rank and required or relevant certifications, when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment.
