Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.69 to $29.92/hr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $28.69 to $34.22/hr.
Work Location: It is based at field sites in Santa Paula and Fillmore. If any on-campus work is needed, it will be in MSI 2304, 2008 and Devereux Bldg 7955.
Working Days and Hours: M-F, 7 am - 3:30 pm

Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Under supervision of Staff Research Associate 3 and Project Director, incumbent assists with implementing research and restoration actions at various sites in the Santa Clara River floodplain (Ventura County). Skills and responsibilities include (extensive knowledge of Southern California plant identification, experience with and knowledge of seed collection, propagation and planting techniques, site preparation and maintenance with an understanding of invasive weed species and protocols for controlling weeds through research and experimentation in the field, including training in herbicide application and other integrated pest management practices (IPM), proficient using field and laboratory equipment (including training in the related safety protocols, vegetation and wildlife monitoring), project planning, coordination, and scheduling, including determining field priorities and managing multiple projects simultaneously, preparing monitoring and progress reports, including data analysis and presentation, inventory and record keeping of restoration activities, data collection and database management for restoration projects, and directing and overseeing the work of contractors, undergraduates in the field.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
- 40% Restoration Assistance - Assist with riparian restoration project including removal of invasive plants, native plant installation, site clean-up, and biological monitoring.
- 20% Research Assistance - Assist with experiment set up, data collection and management.
- 20% Biological monitoring and data management - Oversee and direct work of contractors and project staff to ensure protection of biological resources and consistence with regulatory permitting. Collect and manage data from restoration monitoring, including inputting data into excel, cataloging field data sheets, and using online data storage system.
- 20% Assist with plant production and establishment at field sites - Collect, grow, and maintain native plants for restoration projects using developed methodologies. Maintain irrigation and solar systems, and keep facilities clean to prevent weeds and pathogens from infecting potted plants.
