This is a fixed term position that ends two years from the employee's start date.

Flexible work arrangements are available for this position, including the ability to work remotely within the United States. We would prefer a candidate located in the greater Austin area to be on campus for critical project meetings and client engagement opportunities.

This position provides life/work balance with typically a 40-hour work week and travel limited to training (e.g., conferences/courses).

Purpose

The Senior Business Analyst plays a pivotal role in UT Austin's Digital ID program. This position analyzes business processes, gathers and documents requirements, and ensures system functionality aligns with operational and technical expectations. The Senior Business Analyst leads requirements management for Digital ID systems and related access technologies, including documenting business rules, workflows, and functional expectations. This role works closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to translate operational needs into structured requirements that support system design, integration, and implementation.

In addition, the position supports testing and quality assurance activities by developing test documentation, coordinating testing efforts, identifying system defects, and validating that solutions meet documented requirements.

Responsibilities

Business Analysis:

  • Lead business analysis and requirements gathering efforts for Digital ID systems and related technologies.

  • Develop, document, maintain, and communicate business rules, workflows, and functional requirements.

  • Work with stakeholders and technical teams to identify and document detailed system expectations and operational needs.

  • Translate business processes into structured requirements for development and implementation teams.

  • Maintain and update requirements documentation to ensure alignment between business needs and system capabilities.

Quality Assurance and Testing:

  • Develop and maintain use cases, test cases, and testing procedures.

  • Support functional, regression, and performance testing activities.

  • Identify, document, and assist with isolating system defects across both expected and unanticipated scenarios.

  • Work with technical teams to resolve issues and ensure solutions meet documented requirements.

  • Gather data on testing and create tickets to route them to the proper team for resolution.

Project Coordination & Documentation:

  • Manage business analysis and testing deliverables through planning, tracking, and reporting activities.

  • Create and maintain project documentation including requirements artifacts, test documentation, schedules, and status reports.

  • Work with project managers and technical teams to monitor project tasks and support timely completion of milestones.

  • Maintain documentation repositories for requirements, testing artifacts, and process documentation.

System Analysis & Technical Collaboration:

  • Communicate functional and technical details to a range of audiences including developers, technical teams, and business stakeholders.

  • Serve as a liaison between operational stakeholders and technical teams to clarify requirements and system expectations.

  • Assist with decomposing system functionality to support testing and validation activities.

  • Support technical teams in understanding operational workflows and business requirements.

Operational Support

  • Provide operational and customer support assistance for Digital ID services when needed.

  • Assist with monitoring system issues, investigating problems, and documenting support cases.

  • Perform other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a business analyst, systems analyst, or in a similar role supporting IT or compliance initiatives.

  • Demonstrated experience gathering customer requirements and translating them into functional and technical specifications.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings and collaborate with multiple stakeholder groups.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency with business analysis and project tools (e.g., process mapping, requirements documentation, JIRA, Confluence, or similar).

  • U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee - Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and five or more years of relevant professional experience.

  • Experience supporting enterprise technology implementations or large-scale system initiatives.

  • Experience working with software testing methodologies or quality assurance practices.

  • Experience working in higher education or similarly complex organizations.

  • Familiarity with enterprise systems, integrations, and operational support processes.

Salary Range

$80,000 + depending on qualifications
