Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

Under the direction and supervision of the Patient Equipment Managers, the Patient Equipment Technician II/Driver is responsible for delivery and retrieval of equipment between the Hospital location and off-site storage locations. When not needed for transport of equipment between sites, the Driver acts as a Patient Equipment Tech II and helps with the cleaning and inventory management of equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Loads and unloads patient equipment to/from department vehicles utilizing safe body mechanics and in accordance with departmental procedures.

* Drives departmental vehicle between Main-Center and designated off-site locations, following all rules and regulations of the road, and in compliance with docking procedures.

Performs pick-up and delivery functions.

* Monitors the use and maintenance of departmental vehicles. Checks fluid levels and performs daily safety check. Informs supervisor or lead of conditions requiring attention.

* Responsible for cleaning all assigned equipment using hospital-approved disinfectant wipes.

* Performs detailed cleaning of pumps, as trained and assigned.

* Ensures maintenance of PAR levels of equipment in equipment storage areas.

* Monitors the hallways of the assigned unit and organize and move equipment as needed to ensure safe patient passage and Joint Commission compliance.

* Organizes the soiled utility room. Calls appropriate departments for equipment pickup

* Removes any equipment not functioning properly and red tags as needed. Calls the appropriate departments for removal and repair of equipment.

* Searches the unit and hospital for any missing equipment that is unit specific.

* Transports equipment to units outside of the ICU's. This typically occurs when a patient is transferred to a step-down unit.

* Contributes to the unit, department and hospital goals.

* Meets work agreements and responsibilities as defined within the PEMS Technicians Guide book.

* Responds promptly to calls and system requests, using appropriate system controls and services standards

* Cleans, picks-up, distributes and stores routine inventory items in accordance with established guidelines/policies or as directed.

* Performs daily rounds as defined by standard work document.

* Pickup and/or deliver Dialysis & ITA equipment as required.

* Ensures the prompt delivery (15 minutes of less) of high-priority Respiratory Therapy equipment.

* Logs-out/tags-out broken equipment, ensures work orders are generated for the appropriate repair entity and facilitate transfer of these items to appropriate repair location.

* Keeps PEMS work areas neat and organized with the equipment at the lowest possible profile.

* Escalates customer service complaints/issues promptly to the PEMS management staff.

* Logs out of Epic Rover 15 minutes prior to the end of their shift in order to complete all end-of-shift tasks and job requirements, check work e-mail and complete their assigned reports.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

Experience: One (1) year as a PEMS 1 Technician or comparable experience.

License/Certification:

  • CA Driver's License by Department of Motor Vehicles

* Able to effectively communicate in English (written, verbal and reading).

* Ability to effectively prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

* Able to perform simple database entries and run reports as required.

* Maintains a safe driving record, as defined by the Use of Hospital Vehicles Policy

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* Category I: Tasks involve exposure to blood, fluids or tissue

The work involves considerable physical exertion such as frequent lifting of equipment, bending and stooping, and walking. The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working with risk of exposure to contagious disease, radiation, or infection, or working with emotionally disturbed patients. Precautions are routine for nearly all situations. The employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $33.75 to $38.28
