About the School of Physics at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The School of Physics at Georgia Tech currently has 56 academic faculty, and its graduate program is ranked 21st in the nation by US News and World Report. The School has a broad research program with strengths in astrophysics, condensed matter, atomic, molecular, particle, theoretical physics, and optical physics, physics of living systems, nonlinear science and soft matter physics. The School is also a key player in interdisciplinary initiatives established within Georgia Tech, such as quantum systems, neuroscience, microbial dynamics, planetary sciences, and data science/machine learning. Its student body comprises more than 156 graduate students (Ph.D and Masters) and over 240 undergraduate majors.

Job Summary

The School of Physics at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for two postdoctoral positions to work on The High Energy Neutrino Group. The High Energy Neutrino Group members work on the development of theories, experiments, and statistical methods to answer the deepest questions about our Universe by studying the behavior of the elusive particles called neutrinos.

These are full-time positions, 40 hours weekly.

Responsibilities

We seek highly motivated candidates to play a central role in advancing The Hight Energy Neutrino Group. The successful candidates will:

First Opening:

Assume leading roles in SBND cross section analysis, as well as DUNE slow controls software development and data analysis. The successful applicant will be expected to be based at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, and traveling frequently to Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois.

Second Opening:

Assume leading roles in ProtoDUNE data analysis efforts, as well as DUNE hardware activities for cold electronics testing. The successful applicant will be expected to be based at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, and traveling frequently to Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois.

In addition, each position will:

  • Contribute to the drafting and submitting of papers to peer reviewed journals.
  • Contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department.
  • Contribute to collaboration with other postdocs and students.
Required Qualifications

Ph.D in High-Energy Physics, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in neutrino interaction modeling and cross-section measurements, particularly within experiments such as SBND, DUNE, or ProtoDUNE.

  • Proficiency in scientific computing and software development (C++, Python, ROOT), with experience in large-scale data processing frameworks.

  • Experience with detector hardware, electronics testing, or slow controls systems is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead analysis efforts and contribute to collaboration-wide projects, including mentoring students and junior researchers.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Substantial experience in simulation and data analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a collaborative research environment.

Student Success Criteria

  • The ability to promote a welcoming educational/work environment

  • The ability to engage students in experiential learning activities and pedagogy that support student success

Other Information

This appointment may be renewed for up to three years with the possibility of an additional two years. Annual renewals are at Georgia Tech's sole discretion, based on funding and performance.
