Responsibilities

Cable/Infrastructure Engineers must be detail-oriented and have in-depth knowledge of designing complex cable plans for telecommunication systems, including the layout structures for equipment installations, as well as expanding existing cabling systems. The Cable/Infrastructure Engineer is required to solve technical engineering problems relating to secure and non-secure voice, video, data, and radio frequency cable infrastructure. The Engineer installs, tests, and maintains the secure/non-secure voice, video, data, and radio frequency cable infrastructure in close coordination with the Government. The Engineer performs its work in accordance with policies, procedures, regulations, directives, and industry best practices for installing telecommunications cable infrastructure.

The Cable Infrastructure Engineer (SR) will work onsite at Eglin AFB, FL.

Duties include but are not limited to:

    Install, replace, repair, remove, terminate, and test new and existing LAN cabling in accordance with applicable policies and industry best practices
  • Maintain cable infrastructure labeling standards in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and directives.
  • Installing new cable and infrastructure (inside plant)
  • Terminating and testing new cable and infrastructure (inside plant)
  • Testing and troubleshooting faulty cable.
  • Cross-connecting circuits using patch panels.
  • Maintaining core datacenter infrastructure; following cabling and organization standards.
  • Installing, replacing, repairing, removing, terminating, and testing new and existing LAN cabling in accordance with applicable policies and industry best practices.
  • Maintaining cable infrastructure labeling standards in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and directives.
  • Developing and maintaining IT wiring diagrams
  • Solving issues related to cables and networks
  • Testing and terminating cables
  • Some positions may require shift work and/or an ability to work a non-standard work schedule to support the USSOCOM mission


Qualifications

  • A DoD security clearance at the TS/SCI level is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; 10 years with AS/AA; 6 years with MS/MA or High School Diploma and 12 years of experience.
  • At least eight years of experience in designing, installing, and troubleshooting issues related to secure/non-secure voice, video, data, and radio frequency cable infrastructure.
  • Familiar with both inside and outside plant installation- Preferred
  • Certifications Preferred

    • Preferred Certifications:
      • BICSI Technician Certification
      • BICSI Installer 2, Copper OR BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber certification.
      • Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT)
      • OSP Construction Certifications (e.g., BICSI Outside Plant Designer - OSP)
      • OSHA 10/30 Certification (for safety compliance in construction environments).
      • Manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Corning, Panduit, CommScope, Leviton).
  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks, such as:
      • Climbing ladders and working in confined spaces (e.g., ceilings, raised floors, tunnels, and equipment racks).
      • Working outdoors and in field environments under varying weather conditions.
      • Standing for extended periods while installing and terminating cables.
    • Ability to work at heights and operate scissor lifts, boom lifts, or other aerial platforms.
    • Must be comfortable working in military-secured environments and following strict operational protocols.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
