POSITION SUMMARY

The Lawn Care and Grounds Maintenance Worker for Dismas Charities is responsible for maintaining the exterior appearance, cleanliness, and safety of center grounds and facilities. This role focuses on lawn care, seasonal maintenance, waste management, and light facility repairs to ensure properties meet organizational standards and provide a safe, welcoming environment.

Shift Summary - Full-Time. 40 hours per week.

  • Monday - Friday. 1st Shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Requires travel to local centers.
  • Performs regular lawn maintenance including mowing, edging, trimming, and fertilizing.
  • Conducts seasonal grounds work including leaf raking, debris removal, and landscaping upkeep.
  • Performs snow and ice removal from walkways, driveways, parking areas, and building entrances.
  • Manages trash and recycling pickup, including transport to disposal sites.
  • Maintains cleanliness of exterior building areas, parking lots, and common outdoor spaces.
  • Performs light maintenance tasks including changing light bulbs, minor repairs, and painting touch-ups.
  • Inspects grounds and exterior facilities to identify safety hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Operates and maintains lawn care equipment, snow removal machinery, and hand tools.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Property Services regarding equipment needs and supply orders.
  • Responds to urgent grounds-related issues as they arise.
  • Periodically oversee community lawn care staff, providing direction, quality checks, and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Performs other facility support duties as assigned by the supervisor.

SKILLS

  • Technical Proficiency
    • Experience with lawn care equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and edgers.
    • Knowledge of seasonal grounds maintenance and landscaping basics.
    • Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Administration & Coordination
    • Basic communication skills for coordinating with center management and corporate leadership.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks based on weather conditions and seasonal demands.
    • Reliable attendance and punctuality, especially during weather emergencies.
  • Equipment Operation
    • Safe operation of company vehicles and trailers.
    • Proficiency with lawn maintenance equipment and snow removal machinery.
    • Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and minor repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in lawn care, grounds maintenance, or related field.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to local centers as required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to respond to urgent needs including early morning or weekend snow removal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those required of an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The role requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling. The employee must be able to work outdoors for extended periods and maintain the physical stamina to operate lawn care equipment, snow removal machinery, and hand tools throughout the workday.

ESSENTIAL POSITION

This position is considered an "essential position" (as defined by the United States Department of Homeland Security) and is a position that cannot be completed via telecommuting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee works primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow. Work may occasionally be performed indoors when completing light maintenance tasks. The employee may be exposed to noise from equipment, dust, pollen, and other environmental elements.
