The impact you'll make

As a Software Technical Program Manager within Lam Research's Software and Control Group, you will manage software engineering initiatives and release cycles that support multiple product groups. Your primary focus will be to coordinate software development programs, prioritize deliverables, and drive software release cycle management to ensure alignment with Business Unit (BU) product goals including New Product development and Continuous Improvement Program (CIP) success. You will work closely with stakeholders to set priorities, support software development, and ensure Software Quality Assurance (SQA) testing meets Product Group (PG) and customer needs. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful business outcomes.

What you'll do
  • Manage software-focused technical programs and release cycles within a matrix organization in the following areas:
  • Software release cycle management, including planning, scheduling, and execution of releases.
  • Prioritization of software development and SQA testing to align with BU product goals and CIP objectives.
  • Implementation of software tools and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to support efficient release cycles.
  • Deployment of digital technologies, such as data analytics, automation and iPPM tools like Jira and Planview tools.
  • Collaborate closely with BU stakeholders, Product Groups, and customers to set priorities that ensure successful product launches and CIP outcomes.
  • Coordinate software development and SQA testing efforts to meet quality, performance, and customer requirements.
  • Define and track program scope, schedules, and resources for software projects and release cycles.
  • Assist in resolving program escalations and technical blockers related to software development and testing.
What you'll do (cont.)
  • Work with software developers, SQA engineers, product managers, and internal stakeholders to align technical requirements and deliverables.
  • Conduct program status updates, reporting on release progress, testing outcomes, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and ensure software deliverables and releases align with timelines, quality standards, and PG/customer expectations.
  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment between software teams, SQA, and other engineering disciplines (e.g., hardware, systems engineering).
  • Engage with global, distributed software teams across multiple time zones.
  • Present release and program updates to senior management and stakeholders.
Who we're looking for

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field - Preferred.
  • Program Management certification (e.g., PMP or Agile certifications) - Preferred.
  • Solid software engineering background with experience in developing software systems (e.g., embedded systems, control software, or enterprise applications) in semiconductor industries manufacturing, OEM or related fields.
  • 7-10 years of combined experience in software engineering and technical program management.
  • Direct experience leading and managing cross-functional teams for software projects
  • Program Management experience required
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) supports software or hardware products.
  • Understanding of software architecture and system integration principles.
  • Familiarity with software development and program management methodologies and the tools (e.g., Jira, and Agile, Scrum).
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization and manage ambiguity.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical updates to management.
  • Excellent people and presentation skills, effective communication, and meeting & time management
  • Comfortable collaborating with distributed teams across global time zones.
  • Proactive mindset with an interest in leveraging technology to improve software processes.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to operate independent of day to day supervision
  • Exposure to digital initiatives, such as data analytics, basic AI/ML concepts, or automation technologies.
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills
Preferred qualifications

Demonstrated leadership skills, strategic thinking and attention to details for everyday tactical execution

Excellent data analysis skills (i.e. advanced use of Excel, python notebooks, Tableau, etc.)

Knowledge of software development and project managementmethodology(agile, scrum, extreme, etc.)

Technical background, preferably in semiconductor industry and Etch or Deposition equipment product knowledge is a plus

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories - On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. 'On-site Flex' you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. 'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Salary

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $119,000.00 -$261,000.00.

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
