The Department of Family and Community Medicine is recruiting an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join the Palliative Medicine program. The Palliative Medicine program is a growing interdisciplinary service with an expanding presence at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) and across the health system. The provider will have clinical responsibilities at UCMC working three 10 hour days Saturday-Monday.

Essential Functions

Clinical Care


* Collaborate with the interdisciplinary palliative care team to provide evidence-based palliative care services for patients within UC Health.
* Collaborate with the attending palliative care physician on clinical cases and/or seek su-pervision/joint visits when felt necessary by either the APP or attending physician.
* Attend weekly palliative care team meetings.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the clinical sites.
* Participate in UC Health palliative care expansion initiatives.
* Serve on hospital committees as needed.



Teaching


* Contribute to a positive learning environment for learners.
* Give lectures as part of the palliative care education series.
* Provide education and serve as a resource for nursing staff and healthcare providers in area of clinical expertise.

Nurse Practitioner

Required Education


Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.



Required Trainings/Certifications



  • Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority.
  • Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty.



Required Experience



  • Three (3) years nursing experience.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.

Physician Assistant

Required Education


Master's Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.



Required Trainings/Certifications



  • Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.



Required Experience



  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • The skills to provide palliative care for a population of all ages in the inpatient setting, including: Communication skills to lead family meetings, goals of care discussions, and end-of-life discussions with humility, Complete psychosocial and spiritual assessments in collaboration with the transdisciplinary team, Manage pain and non-pain symptoms that accompany serious illness, Provide end-of-life care.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team and provide consultative care in collaboration with primary medical teams through: Providing a supportive team environment through expressed enthusiasm, approachability, and respect for all members of the healthcare team. Encouraging all team members to participate in the development of treatment plans. Respect for differing opinions. Openness to feedback from all colleagues.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience (APP or RN) OR completion of APP Palliative Care fellowship.
  • Willingness to participate in additional training in the field of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
  • Prior APP experience or experience in hospice or palliative medicine. In the absence of hospice or palliative medicine experience, experience caring for patients in the inpatient, intensive care unit, oncology, or geriatrics settings.
