Reporting to and partnering with the Optum Operating Expense Finance Director, the Associate Director will play a key role as a financial advisor and business partner supporting financial administration, budgeting, planning, forecasting, analysis, modeling, productivity tracking, and decision support. The role will support both senior operating and finance leadership, assisting with evaluation of financial plans and performance.

Strategy

  • As a key business partner to the Optum Operating Expense & Capital Management leadership team, this role will support financial planning associated with Optum's Operating Expense and assist in assessing organizational performance against those plans
  • Develop and maintain tools and processes to provide critical financial and operational information to leadership and support actionable recommendations on strategy and operations
  • Support strategic recommendations to senior management based on financial analysis and projections

Primary Responsibilities:

  • A proven people leader with solid finance skills, business acumen, and professional presence
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working across a highly matrixed organization, influencing business leaders, and supporting decisionmaking and execution
  • Oversight and accountability for key Optum Operating Cost financial reporting, including QBRs, controllership monthend, and business planning; supports earnings release, board materials, and investorrelated deliverables
  • Supports preparation of information for senior Optum leadership, including ad hoc and timesensitive requests, in partnership with the Finance Director
  • Understand and synthesize complex business and financial information and translate it into clear, concise, and actionable insights for leadership
  • Support recommendations regarding technology and tools to optimize financial reporting, including systems, dashboards, and reports
  • Drive continuous improvement in finance processes and reporting routines
  • Developing and reporting forecasting and budgeting for assigned areas of Optum Operating Expense, ensuring SG&A accuracy and clear financial narratives
  • Develop and maintain cost allocation models and processes to support profitability insights and performance targets
  • Partner with Optum operating and finance leadership to support plans that achieve financial and business goals
  • Participate in and help guide crossdivisional initiatives beyond direct span of control. Guide larger, cross-divisional teams outside of direct span of control within Optum

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Finance and/or Accounting
  • Seasoned and mature leader with 5+ years of broad finance experience
  • Advanced level of proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to turn analysis into action
  • Demonstrated "Businessperson" mentality coupled with exceptional financial acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with the business yet be able to deliver uncomfortable messages around operating and financial performance as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to highlight issues/problems and convey complex thoughts in a clear, concise, and timely manner both in written and oral form
  • Demonstrated ability to influence superiors and peers inside of the Finance area to drive business performance
  • Demonstrated ability to identify financial and operating issues and partner with the business to find solutions to those issues
  • Proven mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner for business and finance leaders
  • Proven solid analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model
  • Proven effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with solid oral and written skills and a willingness to share information
  • Proven collaborative and flexible style, with a solid service mentality
  • Proven creativity, with experience implementing critical activities in ways that generate both operating improvements and efficiencies

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
