General Manager - Private Country Club JOB #75110

Position Summary

The General Manager serves as the senior executive leader for the Country Club and is responsible for the overall vision, leadership, operational excellence, and financial performance of the Club. As the primary representative of management, the General Manager partners closely with the Board of Directors to steward the Club's historic legacy while confidently leading the club into its next chapter.

Known as "The Friendliest Club in the Valley," our client's club combines tradition, hospitality, and membership. The General Manager ensures that every aspect of the Club is golf, dining, recreation, facilities, and member services-reflects the exceptional experiences, respect for tradition, integrity, and a welcoming culture

Key Responsibilities

Club Leadership & Strategic Direction

  • Visionary Leadership: Provide executive leadership, vision, and strategic direction aligned with the mission and goals established by the Board.
  • Board Liaison: Serve as the primary liaison to the Board, providing regular reporting on operations, financial performance, and capital planning.
  • Ambassadorship: Act as the visible leader of the Club, fostering trust and strong relationships with members.
  • Culture: Champion a culture of hospitality excellence, accountability, and professionalism across all departments.

Member Experience & Engagement

  • Quality Delivery: Ensure cohesive, high-quality member experience across all Club touchpoints.
  • Engagement: Maintain a strong, visible presence to engage with members and proactively address concerns.
  • Programming: Oversee member communications, programming, and events to strengthen loyalty and retention.
  • Resolution: Serve as the escalation point for complex member matters to ensure brand-aligned resolutions.

Operational & Facility Oversight

  • Executive Oversight: Oversee all amenities, including golf operations, dining, fitness, pool, and tennis.
  • Standards: Ensure facilities are maintained to the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and presentation.
  • Collaboration: Partner with department heads to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Financial Management & Business Performance

  • Accountability: Maintain accountability for budgeting, forecasting, expense control, and financial reporting.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Analyze operational and membership data to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Competitiveness: Ensure Club services deliver clear value and remain competitive within the private club market.
  • Sustainability: Support membership growth and long-term financial sustainability through disciplined operations.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Mentorship: Lead and develop the management team, fostering collaboration and high performance.
  • Accountability: Establish clear expectations and performance goals across all departments.
  • Workplace Culture: Promote a positive, respectful, and service-driven environment for all employees.
  • HR Oversight: Oversee hiring, training, and succession planning

Qualifications & Leadership Profile

  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive senior leadership experience in private club management, hospitality, or luxury service.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated success leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Acumen: Strong financial and business acumen, including managing budgets and operational metrics.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with an approachable leadership style.
  • Balance: Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on leadership.
  • EQ: High emotional intelligence to navigate complex member and Board dynamics.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills and a track record of driving results.
  • Preferred: Experience in member-owned organizations and Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Mobility: Ability to stand and move throughout the club property (clubhouse, golf course, and outdoor spaces) for extended periods.
  • Lifting: Ability to occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Schedule: Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as required.
  • Environment: Fast-paced, service-oriented setting with a combination of indoor and outdoor work in varied weather conditions.

Salary: $150,000 base (salaried, exempt) plus performance-based bonus.

Reports to: Board of Directors

Location: Fresno, CA.
