Job Title: Strategic Sourcing Engineer (NPI Focus)

Business Unit: Global Procurement | Datacom & Specialty Solutions (DSS)

Location: Lisle, IL (Onsite) | Travel: 20-30%

Your Job

As the Strategic Sourcing Engineer (NPI Focus), you will lead sourcing strategy and supplier execution for new fiber optic product launches, partnering closely with engineering from early design through production.

This role is ideal for a hands-on, senior individual contributor who thrives in cross-functional environments. You enjoy taking ownership of supplier strategy, cost, and execution, influencing decisions through expertise, and shaping the success of new product launches from concept to production. Candidates with experience in technical sourcing, NPI programs, or electronics/fiber optics categories will excel, though deep fiber optics experience is helpful but not required.

You will own supplier selection, cost, and risk for key programs, shaping product cost, timelines, and supply continuity. This role offers high visibility with senior leadership and the opportunity to influence critical decisions across engineering, operations, and supply chain.

You will manage regional spend across fiber optic components and assemblies supporting data center, hyperscale, and advanced connectivity markets. This is a senior individual contributor role where hands-on ownership and cross-functional influence are essential, without people management responsibilities.

This role reports to the Director of Regional Category Management.

  • Break down product costs to identify savings opportunities and drive competitive pricing across fiber optic components and assemblies
  • Own supplier relationships end-to-end, ensuring performance, accountability, and continuous improvement across quality, delivery, and cost
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies that balance cost, innovation, and risk across a global supply base
  • Partner with supply chain and operations to align on capacity, demand, and inventory, ensuring continuity as products scale
  • Identify and mitigate supply risks early, while leading solutions during critical constraints or disruptions
  • Drive ongoing cost improvement and value engineering initiatives throughout the product lifecycle

  • Experience negotiating with global suppliers and managing international supply markets
  • Strong analytical skills including cost breakdowns and financial modeling
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority
  • SAP proficiency and advanced Excel capability
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related field
  • Willingness to travel 20-30%

What Will Put You Ahead
