What to Expect
The Sr. Controls Engineer position, reporting to Staff Controls Engineer, is located at our Fremont, CA Factory location.The primary responsibility of this role is to handle all controls and robotics topics and issues within Body and Plastics Paint. The successful candidate will have both theoretical and hands-on experience in a factory production environment and experience in managing new product introductions, equipment projects (new installations) and process optimization, upgrades & modifications. They must be capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams and department leaders to address concerns and issues that affect part quality, production efficiency, work cell ergonomics, and maintenance. Of critical importance, both during and outside the project lifecycle, the successful candidate must be able to think ahead and work proactively.

What You'll Do
  • Responsible for designing, selecting, managing, programming, and commissioning of automation equipment
  • Coordinating with outside vendors and internal teams on the implementation of automation equipment
  • Responsible for implementing and managing continuous process optimization including the addition of advancedand conventional technologies to improve quality, productivity and reduce overall waste
  • Overall responsibility for all controls-related activities in the shop. Leading and assisting production in all controls related topics and issues
  • Support and aid maintenance team in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures
  • Develop & maintain proper documentation of all electrical equipment and associated procedures, making updates as required
  • Identify weak areas of the production systems using root cause analysis and first principles thinking and implement effective countermeasures using all available means
  • Implement and maintain quality control methods including poke yokes, data tracking systems, part recognition and problem reporting
  • Optimization and improvement of human machine interfaces, and SCADA systems and MES interfaces for the paint production teams
  • Creation and improvements of equipment safety standards, and the implementation of those standards into the manufacturing equipment, including periodic checks and qualification inspections

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems
  • 5+ years of advanced PLC programming knowledge on Siemens, Rockwell, or equivalent PLCs in a professional environment
  • Proficiency integrating controls hardware including sensors, remote IO, servos, VFDs, machine vision, barcode readers, etc.
  • Proficient in CAD working with electrical diagrams and prints
  • Robotic programming experience - Durr, Fanuc, and Kuka
  • HMI & SCADA programming experience - Ignition, Siemens WinCC, and AB Factorytalk View
  • Proven project management experience
  • Great problem-solving skills and analytical thinking
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group

    Expected Compensation
    $109,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
