Job Summary

The HR Specialist II for Worker's Compensation & Safety ensures timely processing of workers' compensation claims and evaluates accident reports to determine accuracy and completeness and to ensure adequate investigation. They also manage compliance with OSHA and other applicable laws and regulations in relation to worker compensation and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Administer First Reports of Injury.
  • Ensure timely processing of claims, coordinating medical care as necessary.
  • Review witness statements, compile facts and data regarding accident reports and filed cases.
  • Work closely with TPA for claims resolution.
  • Focus on employee return to work solutions.
  • Advise and assist departments in conducing investigations of accident reports, including interviewing of witnesses and procurement of relevant documentation.
  • Review accident reports to identify patterns of injury and to determine whether unsafe conditions contributed to the accident.
  • Advise departments of trends in injuries and proper safety procedures that may result in a reduction of injuries.
  • Provide information and training that will aid in reducing accidents and improve safety.
  • Train managers in proper procedures and forms to be utilized in workers compensation and safety matters, and in the preparation of accident reports, notices of absence, and notices of return to work in accordance with regulations under the Workers Compensation Act.
  • Ensure that State Industrial Commission forms are properly prepared and filed.
  • Conduct research.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education

Minimum



  • 4 Year/Bachelor's Degree



Experience

Minimum Years of Experience



  • 3-5 years human resources experience, with HRIS and recruiting platform experience preferred.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Knowledge of the Workers' Compensation Act and other applicable state/federal statutes and regulations.
  • Exercise of discretion and judgement and independent decision making skills.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, body systems, and/or impairments and their disabling effects.
  • Ability to evaluate and understand time-loss claims and information related to claims.
  • Sound judgement in interpreting medical fact presented by a physician and applying these facts in determining an individual's capacity to engage in gainful occupation.
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, prioritize and execute high volume of work with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Creativity, self-motivation, problem solving, and positive, professional attitude.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines and goals.

  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws to include FMLA, ADA, and Title VII.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements



  • Sit for extended periods of time at a desk using computers and telephonic/videophone equipment in office related work.
  • Perform repetitive arm and hand movements throughout the work day.
  • Routine travel up to 50% to meet business needs.
