POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will work in the Accounting and Finance Division and reports to the Controller. The position supports the company mission by providing accounting services in multiple areas to include researching and resolving payroll tax related issues, performing analysis on benefit payments, reconciling activity between Costpoint and ADP, routine and special purpose reporting, working with employees and other teams to resolve issues, maintaining historical records and providing backup to other Accounting and Finance team members.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include, but are not limited to:
- Maintains records according to generally accepted accounting practices and company procedures.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
- Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules.
- Performs statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and writes narrative reports explaining findings.
- Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers.
- Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
- Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits.
- Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Installs, modifies, documents, and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
- Manages operational data and maintains accuracy and integrity.
- Monitors and maintains compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, company and department procedures, contractual obligations, and adopted cost accounting standards.
- Performs complex accounting tasks related to various functions including accounts payable, general ledger, travel, and payroll.
- Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Works with various auditors and reviewers to support requests.
- Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field with at least nine (9) years of related experience. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Master's degree in Accounting or a Certified Public Accounting certification
- Experience in government-related finance including Cost Accounting Standards and FAR/DFARs knowledge.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Ability to develop and apply highly advanced principles, concepts and techniques in the field of accounting.
- Skill in researching, gathering, analyzing data, summarizing results, resolving problems and issues, both independently and as a team member.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting concepts and principles to include General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and proper application of internal controls.
- Advanced knowledge of financial policies, processes, and concepts.
- Ability to perform critical strategic tasks and interpret broad requirements to develop and execute plans to satisfy them.
- Knowledge and ability in evaluating options and providing problem-solving solutions.
- Advanced knowledge in the use of computer software applications, including accounting software and financial reporting tools.
- Ability to build and work collaboratively in a team concept environment and work independently as needed.
- Ability to communicate at all levels and contribute functional expertise to business initiatives.
- Ability to conduct research in accounting and business processes and offer ideas for continuous improvement in business processes and internal controls and taking action to implement solutions.
- Ability to effectively convey thoughts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences.
- Ability to impact organizational success and productivity, with latitude for independent judgment.
- Experience with state payroll tax registrations and filing requirements.
- Experience with Federal Payroll tax guidelines and requirements.
- Experience with payroll tax implications of travel, relocation, and tuition assistance using IRS, FAR, CAS, and company policy requirements.
- Knowledge of General ledger (accounting) systems & data - Deltek Costpoint and ADP preferred.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining organization and prioritization with ability to follow through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing priorities.

- Only electrical hazards and other minor potential hazards normally found in an office environment are anticipated.

- Must obtain an L level Department of Energy security clearance.
