Oncology Physician Liaison Job Description

The Oncology Physician Liaison is a highly disciplined, top performing sales executive who will manage the assigned marketing territory.

He/she will be responsible for promoting the oncology service line and its physicians within the assigned territory as well as increase volume in key clinical areas based on the growth strategies set forth by Oncology Services in Radiation, Surgical and Medical Oncology.

This position, based at Rutgers Cancer Institute (RCI) in New Brunswick, NJ, will support all cancer services at RCI/RWJ New Brunswick, RWJ Somerset, RWJ Rahway and Trinitas Regional Medical Center.

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Program and Network Development and the RWJBH VP of Oncology for the Central Region, the Oncology Physician Liaison will be responsible for all physician relations, new physician onboarding and physician marketing activities within the oncology service line of the RWJ Barnabas Health Central Region which includes RCI/RWJ New Brunswick, RWJ Somerset, RWJ Rahway, and Trinitas Regional Medical Center.

In addition to managing their designated region, the physician liaison will also keep a system wide perspective and look to work collaboratively with other regions to further grow and develop the service line.

Essential Functions:

  • Researches physicians in service area and reviews referral patterns as part of establishing a strategic plan
  • Identifies and builds relationships with referring physicians, schedulers, and office staff in the primary, secondary, and tertiary service areas
  • Identifies establish and cultivates relationships with community physician practices (with providers and key practice administrators) that will result in physician referrals
  • Assesses the needs, gathers feedback, and addresses issues raised by the community physicians
  • Meets with key referring physicians and other identified target audiences to educate them on services, physicians, capabilities of RWJBarnabas Health Cancer Services
  • Conducts outreach with RWJBH oncologists and service line providers
  • Assists with on-boarding new RWJBH oncologists and service line providers
  • Monitors external environment, including competitor activity, and provides market intelligence to internal staff
  • Acts as an authority on competitor activity
  • Monitors and provides market intelligence to internal teams on a regular basis
  • Work with RWJBH marketing department to develop and implement marketing strategies and promotional activities including but not limited to: creating promotional materials, planning educational and speaker programs both virtual and inperson, scheduling lunches and out-of-office time with physicians and office staff
  • Accountable for providing monthly/quarterly reports outlining territory analyses and outreach efforts
  • Understands and adheres to RWJBarnabas Health compliance standards and demonstrates core values of the organization
  • Understands and adheres to all Federal, State, and Local compliance standards
  • Acts as a role model for corporate integrity, customer service and improved quality
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree required
  • Three years of medical device sales, pharmaceutical/biotech sales, or physician liaison experience in a health care environment
  • Prior Oncology experience preferred
  • Self-starter with excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem resolution
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Ability to research and organize information with strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information
