Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Medical Foster Care Nurse Administrator and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Medical Assistant (MFC) provides both administrative and clinical support to the Medical Foster Care nursing team. The position requires a detail-oriented, organized approach to managing tasks associated with the care of children in foster care who have medical conditions. Duties include, but are not limited to, creating new charts in the medical record, scheduling appointments with sub-specialists, obtaining and properly filing specialist reports, medical visit notes, and other documents associated with the care of the patient. Occasionally, clinical duties include taking vital signs, preparing specific forms for providers prior to visits, running point of care labs and documenting results. This is a technical position with no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties:



  • Use available documentation to enter patient and family demographic, SOGI, insurance, and case information into the medical record to create new patient charts.
  • File digital documents from foster care team, outside providers, and other agencies in the medical record appropriately and route to the appropriate nurse or provider for review
  • Scan paper documents and records into a digital format for digital filing in the medical record and route to the appropriate nurse or provider.
  • Coordinate the full lifecycle of referrals across all specialties for MFC nurses by scheduling appointments and faxing referral documents.
  • Request external medical reports via HIPAA-compliant release of information forms.
  • Maintain an inventory of medical supplies and submit purchases to appropriate person(s).
  • Performs other related duties, as required.
  • Maintain accurate internal logs and communication with care teams.
  • Provide clinical support for weekly medical provider onsite.
  • Greet patients, observes their condition, and routes them to the provider.
  • Ensures that all patients, visitors and guests, as well as co-workers, receive personalized prompt attention and that they are treated with dignity and respect, and with the utmost confidentiality.
  • Under supervision of nurses or providers, measures patients' vital signs according to specified patient treatment, e., checking patient height, weight, venipuncture, urine dip stick, throat culture, and pregnancy test.
  • Documents vital signs and lab results in the electronic health record.
  • Performs or assists with irrigations, dressings, first aid, providing medication and other appropriate procedures.
  • Assists practitioner in examining patients by preparing patients, assisting with bandages and instruments, and the handling of specimens and cultures.
  • Acts as a patient advocate.
  • Prepares and maintains medical records and makes patient appointments.
  • Maintains examination room, making sure it is clean and equipped with all the necessary supplies.
  • Is competent to assist and interact with patients based upon the age groups treated.
  • Completes all appropriate sections of medical forms and fills out other medical record forms as necessary.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate (GED).
  • Medical Assistant Certification



Key Competencies:



  • Prior experience in a medical office or clinical setting, preferably in referral coordination.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance verification, and referral procedures
  • Experience in using EHR systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Works effectively and enthusiastically with children, adolescents, families, professionals and persons from a wide range of cultural, social and economic backgrounds.

Experience
Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with children, adolescents, families, and multidisciplinary professionals across diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. (preferred)
1 years: Hands-on experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel). (preferred)
Working knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification processes, and referral workflows. (preferred)
Demonstrated experience working in bilingual environments, with Spanish/English proficiency strongly preferred (preferred)
1 years: Experience in a medical office or clinical setting, with a strong preference for experience in referral coordination or care coordination. (preferred)
