Description

This is a paid internship, range of $22/hr - $39/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees.

Tentative 2026 Internship Dates:



  • Semester students: May 19th to July 25th
  • Quarter students: June 16th to August 22nd



Asset Planning is seeking an intern to assist our team in 2026, with a primary focus on data management and analysis. The candidate will have the opportunity for occasional field visits to ST facilities to conduct a (thoroughly supervised) condition assessment of their own. The in-office work will revolve around data integrity and quality control, with a focus on the asset inventories for each site and improving/updating the data.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Sound Transit's Asset Planning team oversees facility condition assessments and transit asset data throughout the Puget Sound region - Link, Sounder, ST Express, and Tacoma Link. The intern will have an opportunity to be a part of the team, both in the office and out in the field, and learn how a large regional transit system is managed.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

JOB DUTIES:



  • Supports the monitoring of assets to sustain appropriate levels of service based on asset condition and performance, useful life, service demand and functional requirements.
  • Performs technical and financial analysis to translate asset condition assessment factors into near-term and long-range funding requirements including cost of ownership and life cycle cost estimating.
  • Conducts day-to-day coordination and oversight of organization's asset registry and inventory.
  • Ensure all asset data is properly collected and quality checked.
  • Assist AP team with other duties/field work/data management.


POTENTIAL PROJECTS:



  • Perform facility condition assessment of a Sound Transit site with significant supervision and guidance from AP team.
  • Quality control and verification of existing asset data across sites/modes.
  • Partner with the Manager of Capital Renewal and Infrastructure to support data requests regarding the development of asset plans and hierarchies.
  • Assist with Asset Planning projects beyond facility condition assessments.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor's or graduate degree program in Data Analysis, Construction Management, Computer Science, Architecture, Engineering, etc. or other technical discipline or relevant two-year certificate.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:



  • Microsoft Excel/data management
