Overview

We are seeking a Certified Central Sterile Technician, sometimes referred to as a Central Supply Tech, Sterile Processing Department Processor (SPD Processor) or Sterilization Technician in our Surgery Department. The Sterilization Technician in the surgical setting will be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment to ensure they are safe for use in procedures. They follow strict infection control protocols, operate sterilization equipment like autoclaves, assemble instrument trays, and help maintain a sterile environment to support patient safety and surgical success. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PD/PRN as needed.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

  • Perform thorough decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical trays, instruments, and other surgical equipment following infection control and safety standards
  • Monitor inventory levels and restock sterile supplies and surgical equipment to ensure continuous support for surgical procedures and patient care areas
  • Enter accurate data into tracking systems and process patient charge cards to ensure proper documentation and billing
  • Transport sterile and used instruments throughout all hospital departments with full knowledge of facility layout and departmental protocols
  • Communicate effectively with surgical staff and clinical teams to anticipate needs and resolve equipment or supply issues promptly
  • Identify and prepare correct instruments, trays, and patient care supplies for specific procedures, ensuring readiness and compliance with surgeon preferences


Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have:

1. High School diploma or GED equivalent required.

2. Sterile Processing Certification required.

3. Ability to read, comprehend and communicate effectively in writing.
4. Skills to maintain active communications with surgical staff.

Additional Qualifications That Are a Plus:

1. Medical Terminology desirable.
2. Minimum 6 months acute patient care facility preferred.
3. Completion of a Sterile Processing program preferred.

4. At least 2 years experience as a Central Sterile Technician in an acute care hospital setting preferred.
