About the Internship

Under general supervision of the Director - Technical Services and the direction of an assigned mentor when working in the facility, this Intern will assist the Metallurgy Team with a wide range of metallurgical projects. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. During the internship, the Intern will learn how to take skills acquired in school and apply them in a manufacturing setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Assist with product and process development and metallurgy reviews to support production;
  • Review and analyze customer material specifications;
  • Assist with development of new grades and processes to meet customer requirements;
  • Follow established procedures and sound metallurgical practices;
  • Assist with cost reduction and process enhancements related to metallurgical aspects of the products;
  • Provide technical support for all phases of steel operations;
  • Assist with analyzing metallurgical testing activities and results;
  • Investigate customer claims and provide oral/written summation of findings;
  • Assist with problem solving of metallurgical topics throughout the facilities;
  • Analyze and determine root cause(s) of internal non-conformances and mechanical test failures;
  • Required to develop a presentation of the projects and lessons learned during the internship. This presentation will be delivered to members of management near the end of the internship.
  • Ability and desire to work well with personnel at all levels of the organization;
  • Abide by all policies and procedures established by the Company;
  • Meet attendance requirements; and
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary.


EDUCATION: Candidate should be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science with a Metallurgy focus.

EXPERIENCE: Must have completed at least freshman year.

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of Metallurgical Engineering concepts and manufacturing methods and procedures; Possess quality orientation, safety focus and sense of urgency in executing responsibilities; Strong analytical/problem solving skills; Proactive as well as detail and results oriented with strong desire to succeed; Motivated and self-directed team player with willingness to work collaboratively; Strong communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills; Willingness to work in a continuously changing environment; High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products; Well organized with ability to prioritize and multi-task in order to handle numerous assignments simultaneously; Ability to maintain confidentiality at the highest level, along with possessing integrity and trust; Willingness and ability to work outside of normal work hours; and Ability to travel regionally on occasion; reliable transportation and valid driver's license required.

Will be required to submit to a criminal background investigation. Urine and hair follicle drug screening will be required upon offer of employment. Applicants must be able to provide a High School Diploma/GED upon hire.
