Job Description

Based in our Washington, DC or Chicago office, ArentFox Schiff is seeking a Conflicts Manager who will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the Conflicts and New Business Intake team, supervising staff, and ensuring accurate and timely resolution of conflicts. This position provides advanced conflict analysis, oversees workflow, and serves as a key resource for attorneys and staff. The Manager supports the Director in implementing policies, training, and strategic initiatives.

General Duties:

  • Manage the daily conflicts workflow for the Conflicts Administrators and Specialists, including coordinating with the Office of General Counsel and Partners as needed.
  • Supervise Conflicts Specialists, coordinate workflow and delegate assignments.
  • Review complex conflict analyses and ensure accuracy and compliance with firm policies.
  • May assist in the review of Outside Counsel Guidelines and other client contracts.
  • Ensure integrity of conflicts database.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to team members, especially regarding research and search strategies.
  • Communicate with attorneys and staff regarding conflicts procedures and policies.
  • Oversee orientation and training for new staff and attorneys.
  • Manage lateral attorney conflict reviews and ensure thorough analysis.
  • Maintain after-hours and urgent conflicts coverage schedule.

Analysis and Reporting:

  • Oversee advanced research using S&P Capital IQ, Mergent, SEC Filings, Lexis, Westlaw, and Internet.
  • Oversee new client intake background checks.
  • Collaborate with the Director on special projects, reports, and policy enhancements.
  • Propose improvements to conflicts and intake processes.

Education:

Bachelor's degree required; BA/BS in a research or related field preferable; business or accounting background preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of conflicts, legal research, or paralegal experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role within a law firm.
  • Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, excellent judgment and ability to multi-task.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze complex business relationships and information to determine if possible legal conflict exists and, if so, to determine if and how they can be resolved according to applicable ethical standards.
  • Familiarity with ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Intapp Open (or similar workflow product), Excel, iManage, and integrated accounting/accounting systems such as 3E.
  • Advanced research skills.

The anticipated good-faith base salary range for this position is:

  • CHI: $132,000 to $181,000 per year

Your exact offer will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, your experience, skills, and overall qualifications. We also review compensation regularly against industry benchmarks and performance outcomes, so you can grow your career here with confidence-knowing your pay recognizes both your impact and our commitment to an equitable approach.

In addition to a competitive base salary, certain positions are eligible for a comprehensive performance-based bonus, payable monthly or annually.
