POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Afognak Native Corporation has an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Operations Controller at our corporate office in Anchorage, Alaska.The Commercial Operations Controller serves as the critical link between Corporate Finance and Commercial Operations, ensuring financial integrity, operational alignment, and compliance across the commercial segment. This role provides strategic financial support to commercial leadership while driving consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement in financial processes and controls. This position will also actively participate in the planning, implementing, and controlling all financial-related activities such as policy updates and compliance, budgeting & forecasting, strategic planning, pricing and overall efficiency and improvement initiatives within the Commercial Operations and Corporate Finance environments.



Leadership and Talent



  • Serves as the primary liaison between Corporate Finance and Commercial Operations, translating requirements and ensuring consistent execution across both groups.
  • Provide training and educational resources to increase financial literacy for commercial teams.
  • Provides team leadership and stimulates collaboration within a dynamic cross-functional environment. Responsible for accounting staff talent selection, professional development, and employee retention for the Commercial Operations Accounting/Finance Department team.


Financial Process Improvement and Governance



  • Leads the implementation and optimization of financial systems and tools.
  • Analyze business processes and financial data to identify efficiency gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Leads implementation and monitoring of internal controls to mitigate financial risk.
  • Ensures accuracy and integrity of the overall financial position for a consolidated multiorganizational company reporting per Private company GAAP regulations accepted in the United States.
  • Ensures compliance with Corporate Ethics and Integrity integration within the Company's Commercial Operations Finance community.
  • Provide knowledge and expertise to the Company's Commercial Team to ensure compliance with the most current GAAP revenue record standard to include revised revenue recognition, lease accounting, and industry specific standards methodologies.


Commercial Operations



  • Collaborate on project evaluations, investment proposals, and resource allocation.
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings to align operational goals with financial objectives.
  • Translate commercial strategies and initiatives into financial impacts and actionable insights.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities in coordination with both departments
  • Drive adoption of best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as change agent for process optimization and enhanced decision-making.
  • Troubleshoots finance-related operational challenges at the store level, including cash handling and reporting, receiving accuracy, and inventory accuracy to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and accuracy in LSUN procedures.


Corporate Strategic Alignment, Restructuring and Analysis



  • Provides timely, accurate financial reporting to support commercial leadership and corporate executives.
  • Conducts KPI monitoring, variance analysis, and operational performance reviews to identify cost efficiencies and margin optimization opportunities.
  • Responsible for corporate and Commercial and Corporate Operations strategic budgeting and forecasting. Identifies and advocates for cost efficiencies and control as well as margin optimization.
  • Advocates for Corporate Finance best practices and compliance in new business pursuits, system configurations, and growth opportunities.


Other



  • Works with the Corporate CFO, Commercial COO (and designees), Subsidiary Presidents, Directors of Operations, and other key executives and staff to plan, refine, and establish priorities as a part of the Corporate Strategic Planning Process.
  • Evaluates, proposes modifications to, and oversees implementation of corporate/commercial finance policies and procedures relevant to the Company'scommercial portfolio of business).
  • Identifies, develops, and implements financial systems, policies and standards in collaboration with Commercial leadership that areconsistent, reliable, and proactive and follow regulatory compliance and best practices in commercial operations.
  • Implements, documents, and maintains adequate and effective processes to improve the overall quality of the financial reporting and analysis, close, and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Develops and maintains tools for Finance functions using Microsoft D365, SharePoint or other IT programs.


Payrange:$113,567 to $145,000 Annually

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive accounting supervision experience in a fast paced commercial environment.
  • Point-of sale back-end accounting office experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), inventory management and accounting in retail environment.
  • Self-starter who takes the initiative to achieve objectives, works constructively with the company's culture and produces quality deliverables.
  • Ability to lead team, inspire team cohesiveness, work as a team member and independently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work with and understand the operational aspects of the company.
