What You'll Bring:

  • Minimum 5+ years as an IP attorney, preferably with fintech or financial services experience.
  • Strong technical literacy-ideally with a background or comfort in software, blockchain, data systems, or fintech innovations.
  • Proven expertise in patent prosecution, trademark filings, and IP portfolio management.
  • Solid experience drafting and negotiating complex IP agreements.
  • Demonstrated litigation and dispute-resolution capabilities, including USPTO proceedings and/or federal court.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent legal writing and communication-able to simplify complex IP concepts for non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and business acumen to align IP initiatives with product and market goals.
  • Ability to work independently and within a matrixed, international, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Perferred Skills:

  • Technical/scientific bachelor's or master's degree (e.g., CS, engineering, fintech).
  • Exposure to global IP systems and connected IP strategy across jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead workshops, trainings, or mentor junior team members.

Impact You'll Make:

  • Advise on the development and execution of global IP strategies-including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets-to align with corporate goals.
  • Prepare, file, prosecute, and maintain IP applications in key regions, coordinating with local counsel as needed.
  • Conduct IP diligence in partnerships, joint ventures, M&A, and licensing to evaluate risks and opportunities.
  • Draft and negotiate IP-related agreements: licenses, NDAs, technology transfers, joint development deals, etc.
  • Monitor global filings and enforce IP rights-oversee infringement analyses, cease-and-desist letters, and dispute resolution.
  • * Manage litigation, administrative proceedings (e.g., USPTO, EPO, TTAB/PTAB), and enforcement actions.
  • Manage a portfolio of commercial litigation and disputes related to our customer (B2B) businesses.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other functional areas such as product, engineering, marketing, and operations to identify and protect new IP.
  • Provide internal training on IP best practices, risk mitigation, and compliance.
  • Stay current on global IP law developments and fintech-specific regulations to inform strategy and compliance.
  • Advise on legal matters related to global real estate transactions, including lease negotiations, property acquisitions, compliance with local regulations, and coordination with external counsel.

This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

Pay Scale Information : The U.S. base salary range for this position is $168,750.00 - $281,250 annually. *The salary range for this position reflects a reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for this job. At TransUnion, actual compensation is based on careful consideration of additional factors such as (but not limited to) an individual's education, training, work experience, job-related skill set, location, and industry knowledge, as well as the scope and responsibilities of the position and market considerations. Regular, fulltime non-sales positions may be eligible to participate in TransUnion's annual bonus plan. Certain positions may be also eligible for long-term incentives and other payments based on applicable company guidance and plan documents.
