The Opportunity Our USGO Cumberland Area team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business, and we are expanding our presence to support our measurement and regulation facilities along with compressor station electrical and controls support within the Cumberland and surrounding areas. We are seeking a multiskilled Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Measurement Technician who is proficient in troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas compressor station control systems, measurement equipment, and other related facilities. The successful candidate exercises judgment in selecting work methods, can troubleshoot complex problems, and possesses a thorough understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of the work. This individual provides recommendations for improvements, may plan and coordinate the work of contract or maintenance crews, and is capable of training less experienced technicians. What you'll do
- Perform major maintenance and repair work on compressor station, meter station, communication systems, and other facilities related to the pipeline system, utilizing advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Lead the installation, start up, and repair of complex measurement and regulation equipment, including various types of meters, recording gauges, flow computers, LCEM units, transmitters, relief valves, regulators, valve actuators, pneumatic and digital controllers, filtration devices, odorizers, and gas quality devices (chromatographs and gas samplers)
- Conduct routine and major maintenance on natural gas driven compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment, applying expert knowledge and judgment
- Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various types of electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment, including complex systems and components
- Maintain power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric generation equipment, microwave multiplex equipment, and orifice meters, providing recommendations for system improvements
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation, electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatuses, and fixtures, using hand and power tools, and ensuring compliance with codes and standards
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using advanced test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of breakdowns and implement corrective actions
- Plan and coordinate work of contract or maintenance crews as required, ensuring efficient and safe operations
- Train and mentor less experienced technicians and apprentices, sharing expertise and best practices
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair, ensuring compliance with codes
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, frequency generators, and oscilloscopes
- Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blueprints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, operation manuals) and serve as a technical resource in their review and use
- Perform diagnostic tests, accuracy tests, calibrations, and replacements of various measurement and regulation equipment
- Compile, prepare, and maintain written records related to DOT auditable inspections, accuracy tests, calibrations, odorant tests, equipment change outs, relief valve tests, and gas quality analysis such as dewpoint levels, specific gravity, and gas samples
- Work closely with station operational personnel to properly route gas within the compressor station, start and stop compressor units, and execute mode changes within the compressor station yard
- Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
- Other tasks as assigned, within scope of qualification
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated workexperience in a related industry
- Meets and maintains company-defined operator qualifications and technical tasks
- Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices
- Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures
- Basic knowledge of engine mechanics
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree to include courses in regulation/engine maintenance or controls/electronics.
- Extensive experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls
- Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment
- Thorough understanding of the test equipment used to maintain control systems
- Advanced experience with PLC's, pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches and regulators
- Ability to interpret technical reference documents and provide recommendations for improvements
This position requires candidates to:
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
- Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
- Cover M+R station operations with potential for periodic nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
- Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures and cramped conditions
