Position Summary

Odyssey has an exciting opportunity for aProposal Writer. Reporting to the Director of Proposals, the Proposal Writer has the responsibility of developing proposal content, including technical approach, past performance, and management volumes; executive summaries; and resumes. The Proposal Writer helps craft compelling content and ensure the delivery of compliant proposals within a Department of Defense (DOD) environment. The Proposal Writer must be experienced in participating in color reviews and kick-off meetings, facilitating conversations with SMEs for coauthoring content, performing proposal content reviews and compliance checks, and desktop publishing. The role also supports the Odyssey Content Library in developing and maintaining boilerplate, templates, and past performance content.



Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

    Develop compliant and responsive content for proposals, past performances, resumes, executive summaries, oral presentations, and related written content
  • Work closely with the proposal team, business development managers and capture leads, operations staff, and Technical Center SMEs to solution, plan, write, and edit high-quality technical and non-technical content
  • Conduct interviews with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to collect and analyze data in support of writing assignments
  • Translate technical concepts and approaches into understandable proposal content
  • Support the inclusion of win themes, discriminators, strengths, action captions, and call-out boxes in proposal volumes
  • Prepare writing aids (e.g., storyboards, annotated page mockups) and ensure these are approved by the technical lead before writing commences
  • Map company past performance to solicitation scope of work requirements
  • Ensure Request for Proposal (RFP) requirements and formatting, for technical scope and evaluation criteria, are adhered to within the proposal volumes
  • Participate in Color Team Review document recovery, incorporating edits, style, and voice
  • Maintain consistency by following company style guide and standards
  • Maintain word templates for proposal materials
  • Review submitted proposals to harvest valuable content for the content library
  • Coordinate with Knowledge Manager to identify gaps in content library; develop and maintain content within the library, including corporate boilerplate and past performance write-ups
  • Assist in preparation of corporate external marketing materials and internal communications
  • Develop and maintain content within a SharePoint environment, including SharePoint libraries and all relevant MS 365 tools, including MS Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Planner, Visio, Adobe Acrobat, and MS List.


Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or similar discipline.

Years of Experience: At least three (3) years of familiarity with the development of content for Requests for Proposals (RFPs) in a Department of Defense (DOD) or related industry environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • APMPcertification and/or Shipley training preferred
  • DoD/government or related industry experience is highly preferred

Technical Skills

  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe

Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent people skills; able to work with internal and external teams of varying sizes, technical abilities, and levels of authority
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with experts on unfamiliar topics
  • Thorough, detail-oriented, and organized with the ability to prioritize and not miss deadlines
  • Proven self-starter

Additional Information

Location: Remote or Hybrid in one of Odyssey's Office Locations

Travel: up to 10%

Remote, Onsite, or Hybrid: Hybrid or Remote

Work hours may fluctuate dependent on proposal schedule; support may be required during non-standard hours (evenings and weekends).

Final compensation for this position will be determined by various factors such as the Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant work experience, specific skills and competencies, geographic location, education, and certifications.
