Lubbock Fire and Life Safety Specialist 43656BR Fire Marshall Position Description The Fire and Life Safety Specialist performs technical and field-based fire prevention and life safety duties in support of the fire prevention program. This position is responsible for conducting routine fire and life-safety inspections to ensure compliance with adopted fire codes, life-safety standards, and local ordinances. About the Department and/or College The Texas Tech University Fire Marshal's Office (TTUFMO) ensures a safe environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors by providing a comprehensive fire prevention and life safety program. As a state institution, Texas Tech University operates under the authority of the Texas State Fire Marshal's Office (SFMO). TTUFMO serves as a vital extension of the SFMO, providing dedicated fire and life safety oversight tailored to the needs of the university community. All our dedicated staff are licensed through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and regularly receive continuing education toward maintaining those certifications. Our fire safety professionals are responsible for monitoring all university buildings for compliance with adopted state fire and life safety codes, and we work collaboratively with university departments, as well as state and local officials, to ensure code compliance, safety and to investigate incidents when they occur. Major/Essential Functions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Certification as TCFP Basic Fire Inspector or (NFPA equivalent) or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Knowledge of NFPA standards, International Fire Code, and fire protection systems. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently. Ability to travel across campus.
