Overview

Under the direction of the supervisor and manager performs complex technical/clinical and research duties independently. Also interfaces with research and ancillary components of the IVF Program.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Procedures:
    • 1.1 Independently performs collection and preparation of oocytes for insemination to include oocyte mircoscopic identification, cleaning, distribution in dishes and insemination. Analysis and preparation of sperm speciman for insemination or for ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection). This includes analysis and processing of fresh and cryopreserved semen specimens as well as the processing of fresh and cryopreserved specimens surgically obtained by epididymial aspiration or testis biopsy. Assessment of fertilization and zygote quality following insemination. Daily assessment/grading and handling of embryos through Day 6 of in vitro culture.
  • 2. Advanced Procedures:
    • 2.1 Under the direction of the supervisor and manager assists in data collection from patient charts, statistical analysis, data organization and presentation at institutional, local, national or international meetings.
  • 3. Documentation:
    • 3.1 Independently manages various data elements and reports to supervisor analysis of data.
  • 4. Quality Control:
    • 4.1 Monitors equipment reagents, media, and work environment by following quality control guidelines.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree in a biological science.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of five years experience in a clinical laboratory performing complex embryology techniques with experience in invitro fertilization and biopsy or PhD in related science with a minimum of three years' experience in a clinical laboratory setting performing basic embryology techniques prior to invitro fertilization.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Excellent written and communication skills with ability to interact with patients, staff and physicians.
