Role Overview

Position: Tax Associate Department: Tax

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Tax

FLSA Status: Exempt Location: Bentonville, AR, Denver, CO

Walton Enterprises is seeking a skilled, highly motivated and entrepreneurial individual to join the team as a Tax Associate. The ideal teammate will have the demonstrated ability to prepare individual, partnership and/or nonprofit tax returns under the supervision of an experienced tax manager.

About the Position

As a member of the Tax Department, the Tax Associate will support the preparation and review of tax filings across a wide range of entities, including individuals, trusts, partnerships, nonprofits, and private foundations. This role will gain exposure to complex, multi-generational family office tax work, providing an excellent foundation for growth within the team.

What you will do

The Tax Associate contributes to compliance, research, and planning projects under the guidance of senior tax professionals. The role assists with return preparation, supports documentation and record management, and helps identify planning opportunities, while continuously building technical knowledge and professional expertise.

Responsibilities

    Assist in preparing and reviewing tax returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships, pass-through entities, nonprofits, and foundations.
  • Conduct tax research and prepare analysis to support compliance and planning.
  • Assist in preparation of workpapers and filings across various state jurisdictions.
  • Maintain accurate tax records and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather information required for compliance and reporting.
  • Support the identification of tax planning opportunities and assist in developing recommendations.
  • Stay current with changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to ad hoc tax-related projects and compliance initiatives.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of 1099 filings and other annual compliance requirements.
  • Support the Tax Department in delivering high-quality service to family clients and entities.

Qualifications required for your success

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Tax, Business Administration or Juris Doctor preferred
  • CPA certification or CPA exam eligible preferred
  • Previous experience in tax accounting or related field preferred
  • Strong knowledge of tax regulations and laws
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build and maintain positive client relationships
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with tax preparation and tax research software

Benefits Information

Compensation Range: $94,000 - $117,000

Benefits Information: We offer a comprehensive and generous benefits package which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off.
