TheUndersea Systems Division (USD)at Leidos currently has an opening for a Test/Mechanical Engineer to work in our San Diego, CA office.TheUSDoperatesat the leading edge of technology by designing,demonstrating, and deploying solutions to solve complex remote sensing problems for our Department of Defense customers.This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to system development and to gain experience for an individual with interest in maritime remote sensing, physics, sensors, systemprototyping, algorithm and software development, statistics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Our focus is to develop capabilities and deployable prototypes and transition those to our Defense business segment.

Primary Responsibilities.

Candidate willbe responsible forapplying sound test engineering, mechanical engineering & design principles in the development of a HWIL systemcontainingmachined, structural, sheet metal, & "commercial off the shelf"componentparts. Candidate willbe responsible forbill of material development, system documentation and verification andcomponentspecification for mechanical assemblies. Candidate must be able to apply sound mechanical test engineering processes, such as drawing production, configuration management, and integration and development of complex mechanical systems.

Basic Qualifications.


  • Bachelor's degreein Mechanical or Aerospace Engineeringfrom an ABET-accredited university.

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 2+ years of combined experience in mechanical component / Hardware in the Loop testing.

  • Proficiencyin finite element analysis (SolidWorks, FEMAP, Nastran, COMSOL), Machine Learning

  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas:

  • Test Procedure Development, Performance and Updates

  • Performance of System Testing Level Testing

  • CAD based software such as SolidWorks

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined team; able to perform complex tasks applying engineering first principles.

  • Must havestrong communication(written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

  • Lead testing operations, reviews, run analysis, and define hardware test plans.

  • US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain a TS clearance.
