Job Summary


The Lab Assistant will assist the department with processing and sectioning tissue samples, preparing, staining, and handling microscope slides for detailed microscopic evaluation, homogenizing tissues and preparing sterile suspensions for passage into host animals, and performing dissections of laboratory animals to expose, collect, and examine tissues in support of ongoing research activities.

br>The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $21.47 - $25.29 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) performs cutting edge research illuminating cardiovascular and pulmonary biology and disease and trains clinicians and scientists to become future leaders of these fields. The CVRI provides a home for a wide spectrum of investigation ranging from the most basic science to disease-focused and patient-based research. It also links faculty interested in cardiovascular biology and disease across UCSF programs, departments and campuses. The diversity of CVRI's faculty and its collaborative culture fosters a multidisciplinary approach to research problems and provides an important bridge between UCSF's outstanding clinical and basic science departments.

Required Qualifications


  • High school graduation and two years of laboratory experience, or two years of college, including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands-on lab research experience with tissue sample processing and staining.
