Summary

The Business Operations Analyst Sr provides coordination and support to ensure the effective functioning of Transportation Operations processes and systems. This role supports and monitors business systems and data sources to ensure they are functioning properly and available for business use, including analytics and reporting. The analyst evaluates business processes and data to proactively identify issues, risks, and opportunities, and provides data-driven recommendations to improve performance and efficiency. The analyst develops dashboards, visualizations, and standardized reports to communicate insights and support decision-making, ensuring data integrity and consistency. The role leads or supports moderate to complex projects, documents business processes and requirements, and partners with cross-functional teams to implement technology-enabled solutions. The position may mentor less tenured personnel and requires a strong understanding of business operations, systems, and industry standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS/BA equivalency or an equivalent combination of four years relevant work experience and relevant college coursework in business, information technology or a related area.
  • An additional five (5) years of progressively responsible experience where strong understanding of business unit operations, business unit systems, database design, structure, functions and work processes and experience with database tools is obtained.
  • Experience supporting system maintenance, upgrades, and user interface functionality.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business and operational processes, including functions, procedures, workflows, and computer systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working on projects and teams, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review data, identify relationships and patterns, and communicate insights effectively. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to review data, see relationships and patterns, as well as possess strong analytical, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Experience managing projects and identifying, tracking, and resolving issues.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Word, and SQL applications.
  • Proficient knowledge of emerging practices and technologies relevant to the business area.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and standards impacting the business area.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Major Accountabilities

1) Participates or leads projects to formulate and define business needs, system scope modifications, and objectives through research and fact finding, combined with a good understanding of business functions, systems, and industry requirements.

2) Researches, analyzes, and proactively resolves routine to complex business and operational problems. Interfaces with IT, Systems Analysts, or vendors to resolve issues as necessary. Follows up to ensure timely resolution and improve customer experience.

3) Participates in or oversees analysis, planning, and implementation of enhancements to new and existing processes, which may include new systems and/or enhancements to existing systems. Gathers and documents business requirements with consideration of business goals and future needs.

4) Provides input and gathers functional requirements, policy and procedure interpretation, and future business system needs. For smaller projects, may coordinate assigned phases of project planning and execution, including estimating resources and tasks, and managing schedules and deliverables.

5) Uses quantitative metrics to analyze process designs and workflows and proactively recommends process improvement initiatives, including potential technology solutions to streamline, automate, and improve operational efficiencies.

6) With limited direction, coordinates and participates in the development of business cases using sound cost/benefit analysis. Keeps apprised of current and emerging trends and proactively researches opportunities to enhance business processes and systems.

7) Provides operational support for business areas and multiple systems, including researching and resolving system issues, conducting gap analysis, identifying and delivering training, and performing data integrity audits.

8) Develops, maintains, and supports reports and queries using appropriate reporting tools. Assists in the development and maintenance of standardized business reporting protocols and ensures data integrity and consistency across reporting outputs.

9) Monitors and tracks business goals, activities, performance metrics, and issues for assigned units to keep management informed of business unit performance.

10) Actively shares knowledge of the business and technical environment, priorities, and processes with less tenured personnel and stakeholders.

11) Conducts research, performs data analysis, and communicates findings through formal presentations and written documentation.

12) Participates in project assignments as a lead or key team member, coordinating activities within business areas, including needs analysis, scope definition, testing strategy, implementation, and user acceptance. May support application and system training for end users.

13) Manages access and security for business systems, ensuring appropriate data security controls, documentation, and compliance with internal policies and procedures.

14) Maintains documentation of processes, guidelines, tools, procedures, and training materials required to support the business unit.

15) May participate in planning, development, and administration of business unit budget functions.



16) Proactively identifies business issues, risks, and opportunities and provides data-driven recommendations to improve processes, systems, and business outcomes.
