Boiler Operator Position will be assigned either 1st (12:00am-8:00am), 2nd (8:00am-4:00pm), or 3rd (4:00pm-12:00 am) and does not usually rotate between shifts. While some accommodation may be made to a preferred schedule,
CSP Management will assign primarily on the needs of the Plant. Will be scheduled 2 out of every four weekends. No on-call rotations. This is an essential worker. |

Technical knowledge in the field of mechanical, electrical or corelating knowledge of the trades that shows aptitude for Boiler Operations acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training program, or on-the-job training. 6 months to a year specific to Boiler Operations. |
| Position Summary |
By servicing over 100 structures with 24-hour steam/heating needs, UGA's Central Steam Plant is a vital necessity to the overall success and health of our university. For this position, the candidate is assumed to be a competent Boiler Operator. It is assumed that the candidate will be able to contribute to the operator's shift rotation as soon as safely possible.
The employee will gain
CSP-specific experience by acquainting themselves with the foundational knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials related to boilers and steam production. The employee will share their knowledge of overall plant safety, operation, servicing, and repair of high-pressure steam boilers, pumps, motors, fuel oil and gas controls, forced draft systems, safety devices, and electronic computer-operated boiler controls for the betterment of the whole.
- As Boiler Operator II, the employee will:
- Maintain Boiler Operating Data/Logs Relative to CSP SOP's & State/Fed Regulations.
- Operate UGA's high-pressure boilers both locally and remotely from a control room by adjusting and regulating controls commensurate with campus steam requirements.
- Perform operational techniques to maintain the high-pressure boilers at maximum operating efficiency on a variety of fuels; natural gas and fuel oil. Use installed and portable electronic, pneumatic, and computerized monitoring and control systems, and safety devices to ensure continual safe and proper operation of boilers and auxiliary equipment.
- Place the Central Steam Plant in a safe condition when safety devices shut down the boilers and/or auxiliary equipment fails to support normal operations. Assist Maintenance Techs to make repairs to boiler/auxiliary equipment as needed.
- Assist the Maintenance Tech as needed to perform preventative maintenance on motors, pumps, boilers, cooling towers, pneumatic and digital controls, valve actuators and operators, and flow meters
- Take an active role in continuous drill training and professional development.
