Under the general supervision of the Radiology Manager and Radiology Administration Director, the Radiology Supervisor provides technical and administrative leadership to the department through interactions with staff techs, lead tech, clinical instructor and others as necessary. Reviews work schedules and assigns duties to workers to maintain patient flow and achieve production goals. Oversees staff in operation of imaging equipment. Evaluates quality of images and provides technical assistance to staff. Demonstrates new techniques, equipment, and procedures to staff.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Assists the Radiology Manager in daily activities relating to both administrative and technical workings of the department to help ensure proper running of Radiology Department.
  • Schedules and assigns Technologists in coordination with Radiology Manager to ensure that coverage needs of the department are met.
  • Assumes responsibility for monitoring patient flow, timely registrations, and monitors patients wait time.Reassigns staff as needed to optimize patient flow. Establishes and maintains efficient communications between front desk and clinical personnel.
  • Assists in Interviews with Radiology Manager and recommends candidates for hiring.
  • Helps put together quality assurance program with involvement from Radiology Manager, Quality & Compliance Instructor, Quality and Safety Radiologist and/or Radiology Director.
  • Helps develop and participates in Department Quality Assurance programs to ensure that the department standards are set forth by Radiology Manager and Radiology Administrative Director, are adhered to and follows up as necessary.
  • Notifies personnel as necessary when patients in age groups not regularly served are present and seeks assistance from individuals with the knowledge of the specialized needs of such patients.
  • Ensures overtime is minimized while patient care and staffing distribution is maximized.
  • Ensures proper staffing and allocates Technologists and other staff to departmental areas as necessary and appropriate for patient care, budget, staffing and department and hospital needs. Oversees employees in all areas for assigned shift.Ensures that employees are performing duties and following policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Assists the Diagnostic Radiology Supervisor and Manager in the maintenance and need for adequate supplies for the Diagnostic department and assess par levels in all areas of Diagnostics on a weekly basis.Submits supply orders as needed, ensuring that expenses are within the constraints of the departmental budget.
  • Works closely with Radiology Manager to give feedback and improve individual department budget, patient care and Technologist training, and initiatives.
  • Performs other Radiologic Technologist tasks to assist with patient care.
  • Completes procedures in timely fashion while providing quality Radiology studies.
  • Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times.
  • Follows all department established and appropriate policies and procedures as required.
  • Sets up equipment as necessary and uses proper technique and exposure factors as necessary and required.
  • Adjusts techniques and factors when necessary due to improper studies or quality factors.
  • Performs duties as required in all areas of department to include all radiology department locations, on and off campus.
  • Follows all radiation safety procedures to ensure patient is not compromised as it relates to radiation safety.Understands all radiation safety issues through annual compliance with radiation's safety briefing and or seminars.
  • Works schedules as required either through regular scheduled hours or on-call as required for department needs.
  • Provides service and care to patients of all ages.
  • Provides all coverage as required in Radiology Department.
  • Maintains equipment through interaction with both Radiology Manager and department service vendors to maximize equipment up time, and minimize dollar impact to the hospital. Placing service calls through contracted vendor when equipment down.
  • Understands managed care guidelines and works to ensure that guidelines are adhered to and proper policies are implemented.Works with any of the following: subordinates, Radiology Administrative Director and any outside departments or agencies to ensure all managed care guidelines are followed for proper billing and or coding.
  • Works with RIS Manager or other staff as necessary to ensure all exam information is captured correctly.
  • Works on RIS reports to ensure that exams are read on time, that all exams are verified and completed, that there are no exceptions in RIS and that worklist is correct and efficient.
  • Assists Radiology Manager with payroll application and time sheet adjustments.
  • Assists Radiology manager and holds investigatory meetings to follow up with possible discipline.
  • Performs patient focused customer service and ensures they are met and achieved.
  • Communicates patient complaints to the proper channels.
  • Handles telephone calls and requests for services over the telephone and through other means both professionally and appropriately.
  • Treats patients and fellow staff with dignity and respect and reports any/all problems to Manager.
  • Accommodates patient needs and requirements through flexibility in scheduling and timeliness of studies.
  • Understands the requirements of the department by providing services to patients not only in performing of studies but also in providing any/all information on reports as necessary and appropriate.
  • Faxes reports and provides assistance to referring physicians when patient questions and/or request for Radiology reports come up.
  • Keeps discussions around patients to a minimum and ensures that patients are not subjected to departmental conversations and any inappropriate behavior.
  • Monitors patient conditions.If/when conditions warrants that assistance may be required, employee takes actions to facilitate the best course of action to include:nursing involvement, other assistance, further monitoring and/or other patient focused solutions.
  • Ensures that all required documentation is properly performed to include but not limited to any/all of the following:proper filling out of requisitions; proper procedures completion related to all procedures performed; proper recording of any required hospital/department and or insurance of managed care requirements for proper recording and or billing of Radiology Procedures; ensures that staff properly enters ICD-9 codes; and ensures that staff properly enters all patient demographics.
  • Conforms to hospital standard of conduct at all times, while providing the best possible patient care, customer service and pride and professionalism of self and work.Employee will be responsible at all times for following hospital and/or department established policies. Practices AIDET for best customer service.
  • Conducts interpersonal relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and fellow employees and staff in a courteous, professional, friendly and understanding way.
  • Demonstrates leadership in all aspects of department operations.
  • Supervises staff to maintain a high quality, efficient, and customer focused department.
  • Performs all types of procedures required as put forth either through department policy and procedures or work demands of the Radiology Manager.
  • Makes quality improvements to radiographs as required and as necessary.
  • Maintains current state and national credentials.
  • Keeps skill level up-to-date by continuing education and performing examinations to keep skill level maintained.
  • Utilizes hospital's Values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.

EDUCATION:

Work requires knowledge of principles and procedures of Diagnostic Radiology. Working knowledge of operation and maintenance of Radiology equipment generally acquired through the completion of two years post-high school training in an approved school of Radiologic Technology.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Current MA license in Radiography, ARRT (R) certification and registration and all applicable Radiology education requirements.

BLS/CPR Certification required.

EXPERIENCE:

Work requires a minimum of three to five years' experience. Work requires two to three years supervisory experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Knowledge of Diagnostic Radiology imaging protocols, processes, techniques and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
  • Ability to rely on experience, judgment and time management skills to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Must present a positive team oriented attitude and a professional appearance.
  • Ability to adhere to safety standards set forth by the Radiology Department, BMC and other regulatory agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients and all/any apprehensions, to instruct students/staff and to interact with other staff technologists.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with members of the healthcare delivery team and staff, ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule; to set priorities and solve problems; to respond quickly to emergency requests.
  • Work requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients and to allay any apprehensions, to instruct students and to provide technical supervision to Staff Technologists.

Compensation Range:

$34.38- $50.00
