About the team/role:

Joining the Over-the-Road (OTR) fleet division as an Outside Sales & Implementation Intern, you will sit at the intersection of business development and operational execution. This is a cross-functional role where you will gain 360-degree exposure to the sales cycle by rotating between various internal departments and the field. You will split your time working internally with Finance, Inside Sales, and Operations to learn the inter-workings of the business, while also traveling with Outside Sales Reps to visit fleet owners.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Field Engagement & Travel: Accompany Outside Sales Reps on in-person visits to observe high-level negotiations, upselling techniques, and competitive new business acquisition.

  • Internal Cross-Functional Rotation: Work closely with Finance, Inside Sales, and Operations to understand the "inter-workings" of the organization and how a deal moves from lead to implementation.

  • Sales Strategy & Lead Gen: Collaborate with the New Business team to identify prospects in the 25-150 truck fleet range and build outbound lead lists from scratch.

  • Account Growth: Assist in analyzing portfolios of 100-150 existing accounts to identify cross-sell and upsell opportunities for WEX's mobility and fuel-related products.

  • Market Intelligence: Monitor the fintech and commercial diesel landscape; catalog price offerings and targeted marketing approaches from disruptors to compare against WEX's internal offerings.

  • Technical Implementation: Support the technical OTR stack by facilitating documentation for potential front-end rewrites (Angular), assisting with SFTP migrations, and managing SaaS account implementations.

  • Data & Pricing Ops: Use Tableau and SQL to analyze fuel price feeds, reconcile transactions (pre-auth vs. post-auth), and make educated decisions on pricing moves.

Experience you'll bring:

  • Location: Ideally based in Nashville, TN, but open to candidates located anywhere in the EST or CST time zones.

  • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or Sales (at least two years completed).

  • Technical Toolkit: Proficiency in G-Suite and MS Office is required. Hands-on experience or a strong aptitude for Salesforce, Tableau, and SQL is essential.

  • Versatility: Ability to thrive in a role that bridges the gap between different internal teams-switching gears from finance and data analysis to client-facing sales support.

  • Analytical Rigor: Strong quantitative skills; ability to audit fuel discounts, update cost components/tax rates, and summarize complex data findings clearly.

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with everyone from internal Finance partners to external truck fleet owners.

  • Professional Mindset: A "willingness to try new things" and the ability to work effectively under limited supervision in a fast-paced environment.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan. WEX's comprehensive and market competitive benefits are designed to support your personal and professional well-being. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurances, retirement savings plan, paid time off, health savings account, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, and more.
