Department Summary

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of North Texas System College of Pharmacy (UNT-SCP) will contribute to the development of the educational, research, and service programs of the Department. The faculty will report to the Chair of the Department. The faculty of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences will provide expertise toward the basic sciences side of the pharmaceutical sciences such as pharmaceutical discovery, formulation, and delivery.

The Pharmaceutical Sciences Department at the UNT System College of Pharmacy is located at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth. Ranked among the top 50 medical schools for seven consecutive years, UNT Health is a 33-acre graduate school located in the city's Cultural District with a local economic impact of $500 million annually. The UNT System College of Pharmacy is the first pharmacy school in Texas located on an academic health science center campus.

Position Overview

This position will be involved in handling mice, performing surgeries in transgenic mice models and post-op care, behavioral tests and molecular studies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one year experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge and skills in using a range of software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite(Word, Excel, and Power Point).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively; perform other administrative/clerical tasks.
  • Aptitude in general laboratory techniques, and documentation.
  • Willingness to acquire competence in new techniques.


Preferred Qualifications



  • An M.S or a Ph.D. in a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of surgical experience in rodents.
  • 6+ years research laboratory experience.


Job Duties



  • Assist in the conduct of surgeries and post-op care in mice, collection of samples or information.
  • Keep detailed logs of all work-related activities. Use computers, computer-interfaced equipment, or high-technology industrial applications to perform work duties.
  • Clean, maintain and prepare supplies and work areas.
  • Perform routine clerical duties as instructed, if essential to the research activities of the supervisor or project to which the research assistant is assigned.

  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
