The Director, EHS (Environment, Health, & Safety) & Security is a senior site leader responsible for shaping and sustaining a proactive, engaged safety and environmental culture across a large & growing site. As a member of the Site Senior Leadership Team, this role provides strategic direction and operational oversight for all EHS and physical security programs, ensuring regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement, risk reduction, and employee ownership of safety.

The Director partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Planning, Legal, and Corporate EHS/Security to design and implement scalable systems that protect employees, the environment, and the business, while enabling operational excellence and growth.

Leadership & Culture

  • Provide visible, values-based leadership to foster a strong, proactive EHS and security culture grounded in employee engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to site leadership, influencing decisions through data, risk insight, and practical solutions.
  • Lead and develop the site EHS and Security organization, including third-party providers (e.g., occupational health, fitness, and security services).
  • Champion site safety governance structures and grassroots safety initiatives that encourage employee participation and ownership.

Strategy, Risk & Compliance

  • Own and oversee all aspects of EHS and physical security performance for the site.
  • Identify applicable environmental, health, safety, and security risks and ensure effective controls are designed, implemented, and sustained.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as corporate EHS policies, management systems, and industry best practices (e.g., cGMP, GAMP, ITIL, PMI, as applicable).
  • Act as the site subject matter expert for EHS regulatory requirements and emerging risks.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce injuries, incidents, environmental impact, waste, and costs while improving overall EHS system effectiveness.
  • Establish, track, and improve EHS performance metrics; hold the team accountable for achieving site goals and leading indicators.
  • Lead sustainability initiatives for the site, including client-specific and corporate sustainability commitments.
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering to integrate EHS requirements into processes, equipment design, and capital projects.

Incident Management & Assurance

  • Oversee the investigation of incidents and near-misses, ensuring robust root cause analysis and sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments are conducted effectively and result in meaningful improvements.
  • Support and lead internal, external, customer, and regulatory inspections, including FDA, EMEA, and third-party audits.
  • Management of work-related injuries and partnering with HR as appropriate (e.g. workers comp, etc.)

External Engagement & Reporting

  • Build and maintain credible, professional relationships with regulatory agencies, customers, and other external stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of required EHS reports, permits, and regulatory filings.
  • Manage the use of external consultants, including defining scopes of work and overseeing performance.
  • Build and maintain relationship with other Resilience site EHSS leads, and partner with them as appropriate.

Governance & Ethics

  • Ensure site compliance with corporate policies, site procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct all activities in alignment with company values, the Code of Ethics, and supporting policies; ensure required training and reporting obligations are met.

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in an EHS/OHS role with a primary focus on health, safety, and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations and standards, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, and ANSI.
  • Proven experience applying and managing EHS management systems and implementing EHS programs, processes, or products.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles related to EHS and loss control.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including driving results, leading change, and building effective teams.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and achieve complex objectives aligned with business goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Solid business acumen with the ability to influence across functions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).
  • Experience in the Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience of working in a Lean environment
  • Strong knowledge of GMPs.
  • Professional Certification (CSP, CIH)
  • 10 years of experience in EHS and people leadership.

Our target base pay hiring range for this position is $145,000.00 - $216,250.00 per year. Actual base pay is dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate's geographical location, relevant experience, qualifications, skills and knowledge.
