Job Summary

Divine Savior Holy Angels High School (DSHA) is a Catholic college preparatory high school for young women that excels at developing the whole person. Sponsored by the Sisters of the Divine Savior and grounded in their mission to make known the goodness and kindness of Jesus Christ, we develop our students into capable young women of faith, heart and intellect who accept the gospel call to live lives that will make a difference.

DSHA's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is rooted in our Catholic identity and Salvatorian mission. Loving one another means putting into practice Catholic Social Teaching, and our scriptural call to "do justice, love goodness, and humbly walk with God" (Micah 6:8) is foundational to our Catholic faith and integral to the formation of all Christians. We also believe that all people are made in the image and likeness of God.

The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, coordinates and facilitates all strategic, education, and programming related to diversity, equity and inclusion consistent with our Catholic, Salvatorian charism and Catholic Social Teaching with emphasis on fostering a sense of belonging and sisterhood amongst all Dashers. This position will be responsible for additional duties such as teaching two sections in a qualified discipline or other institutional needs. This is a 12-month administrative position (full-time 100% FTE school year, part-time 20% FTE in the summer). Work hours will vary. There are times when the employee will need to work at events that are scheduled evenings and/or weekends, and the position may include some summer event or meeting commitments.

Compensation:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities in the Following Areas:

Faith Formation

  • Oversees efforts to advance the Catholic, Salvatorian identity of the school through diversity, equity and inclusion work.
  • Embraces the Catholic mission of the school and is willing to maintain a perspective that understands the teachings of the Catholic Church especially Catholic Social Teaching and assures alignment with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Catholic Social Responsibility framework.
  • Models the importance of faith formation and encourages spiritual growth in our students by participating in faith formation programs and opportunities. Collaborates with the campus ministry team, especially around special Masses or observances relevant to diversity and inclusion (i.e. Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass; Black History Month Mass, etc.)
  • Promotes the teaching that all people are made in the image and likeness of God and are therefore loved fostering a sense of belonging amongst all Dashers.

Strategic Leadership

  • Direct all DSHA diversity efforts.
  • Staff the DEI committee of the DSHA Board of directors initiating the annual charge aligned with the long-range plan and running the meetings.
  • Serve on school committees to provide diversity and inclusion perspectives.
  • Consult with President, Principal, Academic Dean, Director of Student Services, Director of Admissions, Dean of Student Affairs, and VP of Human Resources in the areas of recruitment, admissions, orientation, and retention of students and staff of color by fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Assist the school in addressing issues of school climate related to diversity and inclusion matters.
  • Network with Diversity Professionals from other Catholic, secondary and post-secondary schools, and community organizations and businesses for the advancement of diversity in our school and community.
  • Be an advocate for those in need.

Program Coordination/Development

  • Develop, monitor, and review annual program budget in alignment with the diversity and inclusion plan and annual diversity and inclusion programming.
  • Gather data to measure our student success in academics, co-curricular involvement and leadership; use insights from the data to inform any necessary changes to access or to programming.
  • Oversee routine assessments of relevance, frequency and effectiveness of DSHA's diversity and inclusion message as evidenced in curriculum, literature, media, and physical spaces.
  • In conjunction with the Salvatorian Family House System, lead the Student Diversity Council.
  • Oversee and plan for the school's multi-cultural events and celebrations such as the Dasher Dialogues, Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass, Multicultural Dance, Black History Month Mass, Interfaith prayer service, LaPosada, Multi-Cultural Food Fair, and other programs and events that create a welcoming environment for all students and parents.

Education and Training

  • Serve as a key resource person for staff education and training around areas of inclusion, diversity and cultural awareness.
  • Develop a developmentally appropriate (i.e. more individualized or targeted to specific needs) teacher and administrative staff training program that addresses cultural awareness training, diversity and inclusion awareness and focus on curriculum, culturally aware teaching methods, and relationship building that enhances educational and co-curricular programming around topics of diversity and inclusion.
  • Participate in local and national Catholic continuing education opportunities in diversity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching.

Miscellaneous

  • Provide support in admissions in recruiting prospective students and support college counseling with first generation college-bound students.
  • May teach two sections in a qualified discipline or other institutional needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversee and provide direction to the Latino Family Liaison and/or the African American Family Liaison.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred, in related field such as school counseling or education, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three or more years of experience working with teenagers on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Valid Wisconsin teaching license or ability to obtain Wisconsin license within three years of hire. Previous experience with teaching, mentoring, counseling, program design, implementation and evaluation, strong collaboration skills, cultural sensitivity leadership, and demonstrated commitment to the ideals of Catholic and Salvatorian education especially Catholic Social Teaching.

Academic and/or continuing education credentials such as cultural sensitivity training and experiential expertise working with people from diverse backgrounds such as working with and advocating on behalf of underrepresented populations. Previous program development and coordination experience necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Effective oral, written and presentation skills are essential for success in the position. Incumbent must be highly organized, detail oriented and able to work on multiple projects within specific timeframes with varying deadlines. The ability to take the initiative with projects and to work both independently and as part of a group is required. Must be able to evaluate and respond appropriately to crisis situations. Proficient computer skills with experience using MS Office software, database software, the Internet and email are required. Incumbent must be able to maintain confidential information. Employee development and performance management skills are essential. Incumbent must be able to work with diverse groups on many different projects. Must have valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Work Environment:

The work takes place in primarily an office/school environment, some travel and exposure to external elements may occur.
