Surgical Technologist Lead Job Responsibilities:
- Identifies clinical and operational variables affecting patient and case outcomes. Anticipates variances and adjusts care proactively, utilizing required resources. Articulates the type, scope, and frequency of clinical and case variables affecting outcomes, including patient condition or special needs, equipment availability or functionality, and physician requests. Ensures needs are met time of case. Extrapolates patient's, physician's, or case needs from previous experiences. Creates individualized plan(s) of care. Engages other clinical professionals to assist in responding to possible problems.
- Provides clear and appropriate information and documentation for routine and complex cases. Documents case status and ensures perioperative briefing and debriefing are completed with the team. Reports any change in patient status or patient requirements of the population.
- Coordinates the delivery of appropriate services for specialty, physician group, and population.
- Facilitates seamless transitions between pre-, intra-, and post-operative patient care. Assists, both directly and indirectly, with room turnover. Ensures surgical pause is performed according to procedure. Ensures hand-off to PACU meets established criteria and monitors delay reasons.
- Identifies physician, case, staff, and patient family learning needs proactively. Utilizes vendors as a resource for providing education on equipment and instruments, including but not limited to printed materials, videos, posters, and demonstrations.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma, GED or equivalent
- Experience: 3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
- Certification:
- Basic Life Support from American Heart Association required upon start.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) via NCCT required upon start
- License: Registered Surgical Technologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia required upon start
