Title: Digital accessibility specialist Location: Richmond VA 23219 (Remote) Salary: $ 20.00 - $ 25.00/Hour on w2 without benefits Duration: Long Term BG Check Required: Yes Job Description: The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia is seeking an Accessibility Specialist to ensure that our digital products and services are fully accessible to all users, including those with disabilities and in response to a mandatory federal accessibility law that goes into effect in April 2026. The Accessibility Specialist will work with agency staff to identify digital documents that do not meet ADA accessibility standards and develop an agency-wide plan for remediation. The incumbent will review documents, make edits (if necessary) and test revised documents to ensure they meet accessibility standards. The incumbent will track and report progress. Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of accessibility standards and regulations, such as WCAG and ADA Title II compliance. Familiarity with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, voice recognition software) and how users engage with digital documents and media. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner. Strong writing and editing skills with knowledge of AP Style. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with HTML and/or content management systems preferred.
