Your Role

As an experienced Technical Designer, your job is to combine creativity and technical knowledge with business skills and understanding to produce functionally beautiful spaces for clients. You will support lead architects and designers in collaboration on all phases of design projects from conceptual design through construction administration. Through these efforts you will be contributing to Gensler's mission to create a better world through the power of design.

What You Will Do

  • Coordinate projects through construction to ensure the design of the project is realized

  • Develop construction details and advancing fabrication on your projects

  • Coordinate the QC process; understanding the key players and influencing them to gain compliance to applicable building codes, regulations and internal standards

  • Manage documentation coordination with consultants (structural, MEP, lighting, AV, acoustical, accessibility, building envelope, life safety, etc.)

  • Manage communication between project team, client, vendors, contractors, and consultants

  • Resolve complex technical and design issues with team to produce innovative, technical, constructible solutions

  • Contribute to production of drawings, specifications, and construction administration tasks

  • Responsible for delivery of documents with design intent and top-notch technical quality

  • Maintain and oversee the project manual and specifications

  • Conduct on-site observations and document site reviews

  • Process submittals/substitution requests during construction and address RFI

  • Interface with building and permitting officials during the permitting and construction phases of the project

  • Actively participate and contribute to the financial performance of project

  • Review and contribute to proposals and contracts with the Design Manager

  • Ensure projects conform to contract to the best of your ability

  • Manage client expectations, team communication and oversight of consultant coordination

  • Ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships through successful project delivery

Your Qualifications

  • Professional degree in architecture

  • 20+ years of related project experiencewithin a commercial architecture firm

  • Proficient in writing, graphic communication and presentation skills

  • Proficient in modeling using 2D/3D software, such as CAD, Revit, Octane, 3dViz, 3ds MAX, and/or Rhino utilizing V-Ray

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and/or SketchUp

  • Strong knowledge of relevant building codes and accessibility requirements

  • State licensure and LEED accreditation a plus

  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and parametric design software, including Grasshopper, a plus

  • Interior architecture experience a plus
