Medical Assistant - General Surgery

The Medical Assistant plays a key role in creating a smooth, supportive care experience - keeping supplies stocked, ensuring patients move efficiently through their visits, and partnering closely with physicians and nurses to deliver exceptional care to patients and their families.

• Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days

  • Must be through the American Heart Association (AHA)

• Education

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

• Perform routine direct patientcare duties to support medical and nursing staff during examinations and treatments

• Maintain a safe, clean patientcare environment and ensure patient privacy

• Collect and document vital signs for general surgery patients

• Enter patient medical history and complete medication reconciliation in the medical record

• Collect and properly process patient specimens

• Assist physicians with officebased procedures within the MA scope of practice

• Decontaminate instruments and prepare them for sterilization in SPD
