About the Global UX Team

The Global RingCentral UX organization is based at RingCentral HQ in Belmont, CA. The team has a voice at the executive level, reporting directly to the SVP of RingEX Product.

The team works closely with local Product and Engineering teams and remote development centers in Europe, China and Inida. The team delivers initiatives in an environment of collaboration, high productivity, and low drama.

The Role

This is a visionary and managerial role. This is a hands-on leadership role for a hands-on team leader, not an individual contributor job with some management responsibility.

Fundamentally, your challenge is to advocate for the user by translating business objectives and constraints into high-quality user-centered deliverables. You will be responsible for the vision and execution of all work created by the product designers. The job of the director is to frame the problems to be solved and to design the teams that design the products.

Key Responsibilities

As a Director, User Experience you will:

  • Drive the design across an entire area of our enterprise and end-user web/desktop and mobile products.

  • Lead an existing team of strong individuals on the interaction design team to deliver UX from conceptualization to launch and follow-up for multiple projects.

  • Drive large projects from conception through delivery with a collaborative design approach.

  • Oversee design deliverables to ensure quality of both design and presentation.

  • Hire, manage, and cultivate the career development of design team members in multiple geographies.

  • Define and own a varied menu of UX design processes for project initiatives, including ideation, user-flow analysis, wire-framing, interaction design, and execution.

  • Provide clear creative direction and feedback, ensuring effective inter- and intra-team communication.

  • Work closely with leadership in visual design, production, copywriting, server, and UI engineering to ensure design specifications are an excellent fit with development constraints.

  • Work with product management leadership on project objectives and prioritization to achieve clear and measurable expectations.

  • Advocate for the user experience across the company

  • Attract and retain new design talent with the design team.

  • Create staff career development plans and goals and conduct performance and compensation reviews.

  • Plan and facilitate collaboration and design activities with UX and cross-functional teams (e.g., brainstorms, design sprints, workshops).

  • Meet with upper management to explain strategies and solutions.

Skills and Experience

  • Bringing humans together to achieve a vision with common goals and shared values.

  • Making tradeoffs in an environment of often-conflicting objectives, e.g., deliver great experience on a deadline with fixed resources.

  • Mature leadership with proven experience in seeing the bigger picture and your role in it.

  • Understanding business drivers, defining UX metrics against those drivers, measuring and reporting on results.

  • You work equally well with designers and engineers and understand the symbiosis that exists between the two.

  • Ruthless prioritization and an ability to focus on key issues.

  • Developing individual contributors and the next generation of leaders.

  • Balancing creativity with consistency.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of design experience with at least 5 years in a UX environment.

  • At least 3 years of hands-on team leadership.

  • Minimum of BA/BFA in design, human factors engineering, or a related field; MA/MFA/MBA preferred.

  • Strong portfolio of interaction design work created both individually and indirectly though teams of direct reports.

  • Web design experience in any of the legacy UX role titles, preferable with web applications or transactional websites.

  • Ability to thrive in a start-up environment.

  • Bonus points for experience with enterprise applications.
