Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Plant and Pollinator Center ( PPC) under the Division of Research and Engagement ( DORE), teaches biological concepts and research methods to biology and medical technology majors and prepares them for professional careers and/or advanced study. We also introduce non-biology majors to basic biological knowledge and its applications to our society. We prepare graduate students for professional careers and/or further graduate study. By involving undergraduate and graduate students in research, we increase society's knowledge of living organisms and their environments and we enhance our students' technical and analytical skills so that they can contribute meaningfully to an increasingly technological society. We apply our skills by serving the University, our profession, and the larger community.
Position Summary
This Postdoctoral Researcher - Honey bee Molecular and Microbiology position conducts research related to honey bee gut microbiomes and related colony health and behavior. This position has an innovation component and may lead to development of a novel honey bee health product. The position is an 18 month appointment.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate (Academic) in microbiology, molecular biology or a related field.
  • Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge to conduct microbiological and molecular research on honey bees is required.
  • The ideal candidate will have:

    • A strong background in microbiology and molecular biology.
    • Experience working with honey bees and maintaining honey bee colonies.
    • Experience designing and conducting scientific experiments.
    • Ability to perform statistical analysis and data interpretation.
    • Experience and/or interest in innovation, product development, and entrepreneurship.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
