The Principal - Enterprise AI Architecture serves as Mercy's top AI Architect, accountable for the design, orchestration, governance, and evolution of the enterprise AI architecture. This role leads the strategic direction for AI systems across clinical, operational, and business domains including the development of scalable, ethical, and federated agentic AI frameworks. The Principal ensures architectural alignment across Mercy's federated model, drives enterprise-wide standards, and acts as the chief advisor and steward for all AI-related architectural decisions.

Enterprise AI Architecture Leadership:

  • Owns the development and governance of Mercy's enterprise AI architecture, ensuring it is scalable, interoperable, ethically aligned, and strategically integrated across clinical, operational, and business domains.

  • Defines and maintains enterprise-wide AI architecture blueprints and standards, including those supporting traditional ML and emerging agentic AI systems, to enable a cohesive and federated AI infrastructure.

Agentic AI and Autonomous Systems:

  • Defines standards and reference architectures for the development and safe deployment of agentic AI systems across Mercy's domains.

  • Oversees evaluation, governance, and integration of agentic platforms and orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, CrewAI).

Strategic Design and Value Development:

  • Leads the identification of capabilities, outcomes, and success criteria for AI solutions, and supports the development of business cases that align with organizational goals.

  • Collaborates with stakeholders, designers, and change managers to establish workflow architecture for AI solutions.

Data Strategy and Selection:

  • Leads the identification and sourcing of data for AI solutions, collaborating with development teams, data architects, engineers, and governance stakeholders.

  • Guides the selection of AI model solutions in partnership with the AI engineering team.

AI Testing, Deployment, and Monitoring:

  • Leads the development of training and testing plans and evaluates AI solutions including external vendor models.

  • Collaborates with MLOps/AIOps and change management teams to develop deployment roadmaps and plans.

External Partnership and Solution Evaluation:

  • Engages with external AI solution providers to evaluate and recommend innovations that enhance Mercy's strategic goals.

Specialized Focus Areas:

In addition to core responsibilities, the role will have responsibility for the following areas based on enterprise needs:

  • Orchestration and governance of agentic AI systems and autonomous workflows (e.g., LangGraph, CrewAI)

  • Cloud-native AI platform architecture, including container orchestration and microservices

  • Federated data and model governance, including privacy-preserving architecture design

  • Ethical AI and regulatory compliance integration, including AI registries and continuous monitoring

  • Specialized application of AI in clinical, financial, payer, or operational domains

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 7 years of experience in AI/ML solution design, development, and architecture.3 years of experience leading enterprise architecture or large-scale AI systems
  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, AI, or related field with demonstrated ongoing education and personal development.
