Responsibilities

Clarion Psychiatric Center offers inpatient treatment for adults with moderate to severe psychiatric problems, inpatient crisis stabilization for children and adolescents, and a Partial Hospitalization Program for school-aged children. Our recently expanded 112-bed inpatient program has 4 units. Clarion Psychiatric Center is a STAR LRP-approved facility. STAR LRP is Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Loan Repayment Program, and is intended for individuals working in either a full-time substance use disorder (SUD) treatment job that involves direct patient care in a county where drug overdose death rates exceed the most current national average overdose death rate per 100,000 people, as reported by the CDC; or Mental Health Professional Shortage Area. As such, staff with 6 or more years of service would be able to have their student loans paid off (up to $250,000). Employees engaging in direct patient care qualify.

Qualifications

Job Description: The Risk Manager has broad responsibility to protect the hospital's assets from loss. Risk management activities include but may not be limited to a general knowledge of facility insurance programs, interfacing with the corporate risk management department, administering the UHS TERM Program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management educational programs, complying with risk management related standards by accrediting and regulatory agencies with the objective of enhancing patient safety, promoting patient safety, quality care, and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facility. The Risk Manager is responsible for coordinating the loss control efforts and advising management and administration on all potential sources of loss and for making recommendations to minimize or eliminate exposure. The structure and functions of the Risk Management Program are designed to comply with guidelines and standards of TJC, CMS, other regulatory agencies, and the UHS TERM Program. The Risk Manager also may serve as the Facility Compliance Officer and/ or Facility Privacy Officer as needed by facility.

Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university in nursing, or related health field is preferred. Master's Degree preferred. Combination of education and experience considered.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience in risk management/improving organizational performance within an acute medical or psychiatric treatment setting.

Knowledge / Skills: Principles of Risk Management activities. Basic computer skills. A strong knowledge of JOINT COMMISSION, state of Pennsylvania standards, CMS standards, and any other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities.

General Working Environment: Hospital setting. Staff working in this position may be required to intervene and assist with aggressive patients. Works in a well lighted and ventilated setting, is subject to frequent interruptions, is involved with the patients and personnel throughout designated unit under varying conditions and circumstances. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to HIV and Hepatitis B Viruses

Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and be able to walk and stand for long periods. Able to participate in crisis prevention intervention. The Physical Requirements described herein are representative of those, which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job.
