OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Part Time / Temporary Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration Consultant / Project Manager (10 hours per week for 4 months +/-) to contribute to the company's growing Industrial Manufacturing/Food and Personal Care practice in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast region. Position could be remote after an on-boarding period but is preferred to be local to our regional office in Ellicott City, MD. The business is currently comprised of heavy industrial retrofit development projects in manufacturing, food, and personal care industries.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

This position is multidimensional in nature and involves advising on design, installation, and maintenance of ammonia refrigeration systems, with focus on safety, compliance and efficiency. Strong leadership and communication skills are necessary to successfully execute projects for existing clients while growing Merrick's client base and managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams

  • Provide expert consultation on the design, installation and upgrades of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Provide expert consultation to ensure all systems and operations comply with industry regulations, such as OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA rules
  • Provide expert consultation on developing and implementation of comprehensive preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and ensure system reliability
  • Diagnose and provide expert recommendations on complex problems within the refrigeration system and suggest strategies to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on training clients' staff on safe and efficient operation of their systems.
  • Travel to client sites as needed for design meetings, gathering field data, inspection and developing new work.
  • Contribute to business development and meeting with clients to develop scopes of work.
  • Contribute to corporate and business unit strategic planning efforts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must demonstrate technical expertise and strong knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, including components like compressors, evaporators, vessels, and pumps.
  • Must demonstrate direct, hands-on experience with ammonia refrigeration systems is essential.
  • Must demonstrate comprehensive understanding of EPA and OSHA policies, including PSM.
  • Must demonstrate strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to address technical challenges.
  • Must be willing to work in a design team environment, including providing guidance and recommendations on the work of engineers and designers, and providing feedback as required.
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience of hands-on Ammonia Refrigeration systems, maintenance and engineering, in the industrial manufacturing sector.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick's insurance carrier.
  • Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering strongly preferred or extensive years of experience in ammonia refrigeration systems.
