POSITION MISSION

The Manager, Payroll will lead and oversee all aspects of Bagel Brands' payroll function. This role ensures timely and accurate processing of multi-state payroll, maintains compliance with federal and state regulations, and partners closely with HR and Finance to support employee pay, reporting, and audits. This position will also play a key role in process improvements, system integrations, and ensuring payroll aligns with the company's financial reporting requirements.

Please Note: The range provided below encompasses a wide range of Bagel Brands roles. The specific salary range for this role is:

  • Department: Accounting
  • Base Salary Range: $115,000-$130,000 annually
  • Bonus: 15% annual incentive target
  • Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for all employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable laws.
  • Partner with Accounting leadership to ensure proper payroll accounting entries and reconciliations.
  • Oversee payroll-related reporting, including tax filings, wage garnishments, and year-end activities (W-2s).
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure data integrity across HRIS and ERP systems.
  • Supervise and mentor payroll specialist.
  • Serve as the point of contact for payroll inquiries, resolving employee questions and issues.
  • Collaborate with HR, Benefits, and Finance teams on compensation, benefits, and compliance matters.
  • Ensure payroll processes comply with internal controls and company policies.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll-related documentation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation, and efficiencies within payroll operations.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Required:

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience preparing payroll journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting support.
  • Prior experience with multi-state payroll and high-volume hourly employee populations.
  • Proficiency in payroll systems (Workday, ADP preferred) and ERP systems (NetSuite preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the food and beverage industry.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills: SQL or database experience a plus.
  • Experience implementing process improvements and system integrations with HRIS/ERP.

EDUCATION - TRAINING - EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.

Compensation Range:

$73,008.00 - $127,774.40 per year

*Starting pay is subject to Local and State Minimum Wage regulations.
