Responsibilities & Expectations:

The Winder Trainee assists in the construction and assembly of coils used in distribution transformers under close supervision. This role is designed for individuals who are learning the fundamentals of coil winding and related processes. The trainee will support experienced winders, gradually developing skills in handling specialized tools, machinery, and safety procedures.

  • Assist in constructing coils based on winding specifications and engineering drawings under guidance
  • Learn to make brazed connections, fabricate crossovers, and install cooling ducts as required
  • Support in burning leads using an oxygen/acetylene torch (training provided)
  • Operate wire-coil machines under supervision to wind wire coils used in distribution transformers
  • Help set up and dismantle coil setups, including mandrels, wire, derailleurs, and other equipment
  • Select and load materials such as workpieces and machine parts onto coiling equipment with assistance
  • Practice cutting, stripping, and bending wire leads using pliers and wire scrapers
  • Assist in attaching, altering, and trimming materials such as wire, insulation, and coils using hand tools
  • Stop machines and remove completed components under supervision
  • Learn to operate a forklift to move coils or materials (certification may be provided)
  • Record basic data such as wire and coil check sheets for tracking and quality control
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures diligently

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Interest in electrical or mechanical fields; technical training is a plus
  • Ability to learn to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow instructions
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools
  • Ability to work in a team environment and maintain accurate records
  • Forklift experience is helpful but not required (training available)
