Job Description

*** This position is on the 2nd shift (3pm start time), Monday - Friday. ***

Business Profile:

Wyman-Gordon is a worldwide supplier to the aerospace and industrial gas turbine markets. We hold quality accreditations for all the major airframe and engine manufacturers for both civil and military applications. Wyman-Gordon creates rotating closed-die forgings which are critical for aerospace and land-based gas turbines. Wyman-Gordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe, nuclear, petrochemical, power generation, and space applications.

Location Profile:

Located in South Gate, Dickson Testing Company, Inc. is a full-service, destructive laboratory serving aerospace and metallic producers worldwide. Our laboratories serve our customers with metallurgical, mechanical, corrosion, and chemical testing services. In support of these services our facility provides complete specimen fabrication, cut-off services and heat treat capability.

Position Summary:

Under minimal supervision, Material Handlers move material throughout the facility, labs and warehouse, either manually or using equipment such as trucks or forklifts. Material handlers move samples to and from designated pick up and drop off bins throughout the facility.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Comply with PCC's Code of Conduct Requirements and all PCC Rules (e.g. Quality and Safety).
  • Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
  • All functions, duties or tasks are to be carried out in an honest, ethical and professional manner, and to be performed in conformance with applicable Company policies and procedures.
  • In the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of Company policies and procedures, employees are required to request clarification or explanations from superiors or authorized company representatives.
  • Physically locate, identify, properly scan and move product into the appropriate stations. The key indicators of success are "done" bins are empty, meaning the parts have moved on to the next station, and the dispatch list shows little to no variation from expected "days in operations".
  • Monitor bins multiple times throughout the workday to ensure timely processing.
  • Match test material with test bags, must sign off to confirm this action.
  • Identify with DTC sample ID as required, for example micros & macros.
  • Move materials to and from loading docks, storage areas, fabrication and test lab areas.
  • Scan and record test sample locations in the Shot (cutting / machining / heat treat) and Test Labs (Chemical, Mechanical and Metallurgical labs) to capture progress.
  • Ensure all material moves across the shop floor and test labs, ensuring jobs are not missed and that deadlines are met. If a deadline is at risk, raise this issue to your supervisor immediately.
  • Operate forklifts and other equipment to move samples.
  • Pull inventory and move stock and other materials to fulfill orders.
  • Unload product deliveries from vehicles and stock them.
  • Identify product that needs to be matched and moved.
  • Assist in locating jobs.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new or improved production control systems.
  • Ability to identify quality issues and correct them on the fly.
  • Ensure the area has the materials and supplies to meet production needs.
  • Enter production information into the ERP system on a timely basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated understanding of scheduling systems, inventory management and capacity planning practices, TOC and Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees, vendors, suppliers and guests.
  • Punctual, strong work ethic as the entire production and testing process relies on this position.
  • Physically demanding role, requires constant motion.
  • Ability to constantly work through computer lists, moving product and thinking about the process flow and the best way to move product across the shop and test labs.
  • Able to effectively use computer systems, scanners, barcoding, Excel and other programs.
  • Effective inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • The ability to demonstrate leadership and positively models' culture.

Experience & Education:

  • High school graduate, or GED equivalent, is required.
  • 1+ years related experience is required.
  • Experience in a destructive lab environment is highly preferred but not required.
  • Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, and machine shop is highly preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Forklift certification preferred but not required.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $16.00 to $20.00 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter . Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
