Connecticut Lead Donor Specialist

The Lead Donor Specialist is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of blood collection activities to ensure donor and product safety, excellent customer service, and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Responsible to fill the role of Donor Care Technicians when not assigned to lead activities at a mobile blood drive or fixed site.
This position reports to an assigned Donor Services Supervisor. The Lead Donor Specialist will also interact with the Donor Services Director/Managers/Supervisors, Vice President and Medical Staff as necessary to effectively resolve medical and operational questions.

Effectively manage blood collection process to ensure optimal donor flow/staffutilization and that all blood collection activities take place in accordance with SOPs.

Plan staff assignments, breaks, and lunches per department standards and donor needs.

Ensure appropriate handling of blood collections and timely transfer to the Main Laboratory.

Provide effective leadership to collection team.

Effectively prioritize, organize, and delegate tasks. Utilize all available resources toappropriately resolve medical and operational questions pertaining to volunteer,therapeutic, and/or directed donors and treat donor reactions.

Provide assistance to Donor Care Technicians with difficult venipunctures. Direct volunteers in theirduties.

Role-model professionalism for collection team.

Support the mission of RIBC and direction of the Donor Services department.

Lead by example as it relates to personal interactions, conflict resolution, dress code, use ofbenefit time, attendance, and work ethic.

Demonstrate effective decision-making regarding donor eligibility and problem-solvingskills regarding operational issues.

Utilize available resources effectively and appropriately, recognizing own abilities and limitations.

Ensure correct documentation and quality assurance through the following: perform and recorddaily quality control activities; review Donor Records for accuracy and completeness; complete allrequired blood drive and fixed site paperwork; oversee and approve staff time sheets; scanning inand out; and maintain low error and QNS rate.

Successfully fulfill all job requirements of the Donor Care Technician position per the Donor CareTechnician job description and the career ladder criteria.

Maintain competency in blood collection skills, including automation.

Maintain effective written and verbal communications with donors, blood drives sponsors, andstaff.

The Lead Donor Specialist will oversee the activities of staff and volunteers as assigned at blood drives and fixed sites. The Lead Donor Specialist is expected to share concerns regarding staff behavior and competence with Supervisors and DS Managers. The ability to maintain confidentiality of staff situations and exercise appropriate discretion in all interactions is essential.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalency;

Graduate of certified Medical Laboratory or Phlebotomy Program preferred;

CPR certified or will certify once employed.

Will be required to take and pass competency tests as defined by the DS department for specific location,

Qualifications:

At Fixed Site Locations -. Must be whole blood, double red cell (Alyx) and platelets (Trima) trained.
Previous medical and/or supervisory experience preferred. Errors and Quantity Not Sufficient
(QNS) within thresholds.

Mobile Blood Drive Location - Must be whole blood and double red cell (Alyx) trained.

Previous medical and/or supervisory experience preferred. Errors and Quantity Not Sufficient (QNS) withinthresholds.

Provides excellent customer service by acknowledging the donor, treating donors in a
respectful manner, and striving to provide each donor with a positive and pleasant experience
which would encourage his/her return.

Must be able to fluently speak, read, write, and comprehend English.

Schedule:

Varied work schedule.

Travel throughout Connecticut is required.

The proposed hourly rate for this position is $27.66/hr. - $29/hr.
